Gridiron coming to a close
After several days of heavy rains, looks like it should be only jackets and stocking hats that will be in order this Friday night when the Bulldogs take on the Generals of Jackson County on Bulldog Field for the final contest of the 2015 season.
Coach Miller and company will be taking a 5-4 record into Friday night’s contest and hoping to extend that to what would be Clinton County’s first-ever winning record against varsity competition.
Jackson County brings a 1-8 record to town to face the Bulldogs.
The Dawgs will be hitting the field after an open week off in the schedule, coming off of a 44-28 win over Jenkins on October 15 while the Generals lost to Bell County 48-8 last Friday night.
Kick-off Friday is set for 7:00 p.m. and kickoff forecast as of now is for a nice, cool, crisp night of football with no rain and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s when the game gets underway.
Like I said earlier – jackets and stocking hats – and good luck Dawgs!
Time to salute the seniors
With Friday night being the last contest of the season for the football squad, it will be Senior Night and during the festivities, six Bulldog football players will be honored for their playing careers. Also, with golf being a fall sport also, one senior golfer will be honored during senior night as well.
An issue that bodes will for the shape of things to come for C.C.H.S. fall sports is the fact that only five players are seniors on the football squad, and a single golfer from that squad. Couple that in with the fact that there are no seniors on either soccer team or the cross country team and the translation should be a fairly strong fall outlook in 2016.
Senior night festivities Friday on Bulldog field will be before the game begins, and should get underway at about 6:40 p.m., according to C.C.H.S. Athletic Director Mike Beard.
Cheer competition Saturday
Now that the KHSAA sanctions cheerleading as a “Sports Activity”, there will be competitive judging for cheerleaders through the KHSAA organization.
That competition is slated to be held this Saturday and will be hosted this year by Bowling Green High School.
Cross Country regional meet this Saturday
Cross Country competition comes to a close soon and this weekend our Runnin’ Dawgs will be competing in the regional meet this Saturday, hosted by Logan County High School. The Runnin’ Dawgs compete in Region 2, Class 1A.
The KHSAA Cross Country Meet is slated to be held November 7 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Sid continues to improve
Sid Scott, the long-time WANY broadcaster who has put C.C.H.S. games over the local airwaves for several decades now, continues to make forward progress in his recovery after an extended bout with pneumonia.
His daughter, Lynn Starnes, said he still has some medical procedures ahead, but as we approach November in just a few days, she reports that he is beginning to make preparations to do broadcasts for the upcoming 2015-16 basketball season, which will get underway in early December.
She also says that the family continues to appreciate the thoughts, prayers and well-wishes he has received since first falling ill back in the summer months.
Additionally, she noted that he disagreed somewhat with my notion last week that he was continuing to display his well documented stubbornness throughout this ordeal, wondering where I might have come up with the idea that he ever displayed any traits that could be misunderstood as being “stubborn”.
I guess when he completes his rehab for his current ailment, they will begin work on his delusional issues at that time.
Get well soon, Sid!
