Good year for the Bulldogs
Football in Clinton County came to an end for the 2015 season Friday night on Bulldog field, with Coach Miller and his team not having the best of nights.
Clinton County suffered a 42-22 loss at the hands of the Jackson County Generals to put the lid on the season.
Still, it was a good year overall for the Bulldogs, and for the future of the program, with Clinton County finishing the year 5-5 after coming off last year’s 3-7 record.
A noticeable improvement from year to year is always welcomed.
Senior night salute – and a correction
As I mentioned last week in this space, Friday night was Senior Night for the Bulldogs and the senior members recognized prior to the football game’s start.
Along with the football players, the lone Golf Dawg from the senior class was also recognized Friday night.
That’s where I let my fingers get ahead of my brain while writing last week’s column when I noted those were the only seniors involved with any of the fall sports.
A reader phoned in to jog my brain last week and help me remember that there were in fact other seniors involved in fall sports, and that those sports had celebrated those senior athletes with their own respective Senior Night salutes.
In fact – all I had to do was look at our own Big Blue Preview published back in August, to realize that the girls’ soccer team has a half dozen seniors, the boys’ soccer had a couple and the Volley Dawgs saw three seniors on the floor this past season.
Mea culpa.
Congrats to more winners
As I also mentioned last week a couple of regional events were being held, namely the cross country meet and cheerleading competition.
When all was said and done, we had a regional runner-up cheerleading winner as well as several cross country members who will be advancing to this weekend’s state meet run at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
Additional details on both can be found elsewhere in Sports, but from this desk – congratulations on jobs well done.
Meet the Bulldogs around the corner
As you have noticed for the past few weeks, the CCHS Basketball program is setting up a new fundraising event that will coincide with the upcoming traditional basketball season kickoff – Meet the Bulldogs.
The cash giveaway will feature a Hunter’s BBQ dinner and drawing at the high school Friday, November 13, from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m., just prior to the Meet the Bulldogs introductions and scrimmages.
Of course following all of those events will be the introductions of the newest Wall of Fame members.
More details on the Wall of Fame and planned events surrounding the night will be given in this space as well as in a separate article next week, but consider this a friendly reminder to get out and purchase your meal and giveaway tickets now, as no giveaway tickets will be sold at the door.
Tickets are $50 and will include two plate dinners as well as a chance to win the $2000 grand prize.
All of that means that roundball season is also just a few short weeks away. We throw up the rock for the first time at Casey County on December 1 followed by a home showcase on Friday, December 4 against Franklin-Simpson. Both are double-headers.
