The Recreation Park Board’s executive committee held a brief meeting last Thursday evening, October 29 with five members on hand.

Most of the approximate half-hour meeting was spent discussing the recent paving project and other proposed additions to Mountain View Park.

Paving around the dug-out and bleacher areas had been completed as of last week’s meeting date, and the repaving of the existing walking track was expected to have been completed within a few days, possibly as early as this week.

Funding for the project came from various sources, with a lot of community cooperation but the bulk of the money to make the project a reality was obtained through the Healthy Hometown Coalition program.

Park Director Bobby Reneau also thanked Gaddie-Shamrock for its donations toward the project and the excellent quality of work put in.

Board members also discussed various ways possible to keep motorists from driving on the new paved areas inside the existing parking lot, which is a pedestrian only area.

Another project the board is working on is adding a “toddler” playground near the existing, newly erected playground that was installed earlier this summer and is being heavily used.

Currently there is a separate fund of around $3,000 toward a toddler playground area.

It was also noted some other additions may be added to the park from grant funds through the UK Cooperative Extension Service, administered locally.

Prior to adjourning, board members also approved the monthly treasurer’s report, which showed a balance of $2,760.86 with pending bills of $130.00.

The park board does not meet during the month of November and its next business meeting will be held in conjunction with the annual Christmas dinner in December, with the date and time to be announced later.
