Twin Lakes Association holds quarterly meeting

The Twin Lakes Cattle Assn. of Clinton county held its final membership meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 27 at the South Ky. RECC building in Albany. A good crowd of nearly 50 cattlemen were treated by a fine meal, several special speakers, and last minute visit by Agriculture Commissioner Jamie Comer.

The program kicked off with a hearty beef stew and cornbread meal followed by a selection of homemade pies.

Speaking first on the program was Jared Watts, Regional Sales Representative for Tarter Farm and Ranch of Dunnville, Ky. Watts gave an informative talk about the growth of Tarter and how they has become a world-wide leader in agricultural products. All Tarter products are available through registered distributor’s throughout the country. It continues to sell seconds and slightly damaged products through its home office and factory in Dunnville, Ky. Watts brought one of the new Series 6 cattle working chutes to display for the local membership.

Next on the program, the association welcomed Gary Woodall, current President of KCA. Woodall described to those attending the benefits of continuing to be a member of KCA and encouraged those guests in attendance to join. In addition he provided a short narrative of his personal cattle operation and gave several tips to the crowd about management of beef cattle.

Twin Lakes cattleman Jerry Branham then gave the membership a short “walk-thru” on his experiences with using the local Dead Animal Removal program available in Clinton County. The county recently added the services of A & S Livestock of Jamestown, Ky., which provides 24 hour pick-up of deceased livestock. Cost share assistance is also available through the local Clinton County Soil Conservation District.

The membership then moved into regular business session but not before a surprise visit by Agriculture Commissioner Jamie Comer and State Representative Jeff Hoover. Comer shared some kind words with the group and encouraged all beef producers to stay the course and continue making Kentucky the leading beef producing state east of the Mississippi River.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Twin Lakes Assn. will be the first quarter meeting in January 2016.

Till next time, keep putting on the pounds,

Steve
