The Clinton County Senior Center is planning a little “jailhouse” fun during a “Jail and Bail” fundraising event planned for Giving Tuesday (December 1), which follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesday is a global effort to encourage people to donate to special causes during the holiday gift-giving season. For the Clinton County Senior Citizen Center and nine other senior citizen centers throughout the region, that special cause is the Senior Services Endowment Fund.
Earlier this year, the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, the agency responsible for the staffing and operation of the programs at senior citizen centers in Clinton, Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor and Wayne counties, established an endowment fund through the Lake Area Foundation. The fund was set up due to a growing concern about shrinking government funds and the long-term negative impact that this might have on future services provided to clients both at the centers and through the home-delivered meal program.
To supplement and/or potentially replace government funding, the Lake Cumberland Area Development District has been looking for new and creative approaches to fund senior services programs to ensure that the region’s senior population is served now and in the future. As a result, the Senior Services Endowment Fund was born.
The immediate goal of the Senior Services Endowment Fund is growth. The long-term goal for the fund is to use earnings to help support senior citizen services, thus securing the future of these services in Clinton County and throughout the region. The Lake Cumberland Area Development District hopes to raise $10,000 for the endowment fund during “Jail and Bail” events that are taking place at each center throughout the region.
Center directors in each county are currently busy identifying local celebrities who will be “arrested” and “jailed” on December 1. These folks will no doubt be asking for your help to bail them out of “jail.” “I am looking forward to an exciting day as we arrest some of our finest citizens and raise money to support a worthy cause during this holiday season,” said Clinton County Senior Citizen Director Vicky Avery.
