Macy Campbell got caught in a double-team Tuesday night during the first half against Casey County. Despite not scoring in the first quarter, Clinton County battled back and got to within seven points late in the game, but couldn’t get any closer, picking up its first loss of the season, 50-43.

After an 0-2 start on this still young roundball season, the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs flipped their game into a completely opposite appearance on Saturday from the first two outings to pick up a big win over in Bowling Green against the Lady Raiders of Warren East.

That 48-31 cruising win on Saturday night followed two season opening losses for the Lady Bulldogs, the first a narrow seven point 50-43 loss at Casey County, followed by a 50-38 loss at the hands of Franklin-Simpson’s Lady Wildcats in Clinton County’s home opener Friday night.

Clinton County seemed to bring a different team with a different attitude to the floor on Saturday night when they traveled to the western end of the 4th Region to take on the Lady Raiders of Warren East.

Although the Lady Raiders moved out to an early 4-2 lead, Clinton County picked up it’s own lead on back to back field goals by center Allie Hopper to move ahead by four points, 8-4, with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter of action.

From that point, the Lady Bulldogs never relinquished control of the lead.

After rolling off nine unanswered points, Clinton County finished that first quarter in control of a 13-4 advantage on scoring by Hopper as well as Macy Campbell and Tessa Roberts.

It was shortly into the second quarter of action that the Lady Bulldogs made a step toward becoming an even more complete ball club when senior Kayla Dicken got the call from coach Darrell Thompson to leave the bench and head onto the floor.

Dicken, who had been sitting out of the previous two games due to a suspension, is one of three players the Lady Dawgs have been missing in action thus far.

Guards Jolie Hicks and Bree Boils continue to watch from the sidelines while rehabbing knee injuries sustained in the pre-season.

Clinton County finished the first half in possession of a nine point lead, 23-14.

Action early in the third quarter saw the Lady Dawgs take an even more commanding control of the pace and with unanswered scoring from Campbell, Gabby Beaty and Rylee Stockton, Clinton County rolled out to a 32-14 advantage.

Christina Collins ended the quarter with two free throws that put the Lady Dawgs out in front 34-14.

On the first possession of the final quarter of action, Sam Flowers stretched Clinton County’s lead to 18 points on a put-back basket, 36-18.

Warren East wasn’t quite ready to fold completely as the game moved through the final period of action. The Lady Raiders mounted a 9-1 comeback run mid-way through the quarter to pull to within 10 points, 37-27.

A three point play by Dicken with 3:38 showing on the game clock stopped the Lady Raiders hopes of making a comeback in the final minutes, and as the final minutes played out, the Lady Dawgs eased back out in front to eventually lay claim to the 17 point victory, 48-31.

Casey County – 50

Playing in a “throwback” style of basketball surroundings, the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs opeed the 2015-16 season at Casey County, and the year got off to a slow start for the Big Blue.

Playing in the Lady Rebel’s traditional opening game inside the old Liberty Gymnasium, Clinton County clearly appeared to be having trouble with a case of first game jitters.

The Lady Bulldogs took the floor with a shortened roster, with guards Joelie Hicks and Bree Boils sidelined with knee injuries suffered in the pre-season, while center Kayle Dicken sat out serving a suspension.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start against the Lady Rebels, unable to get anything going with their game and digging a hole for themselves against Casey County that proved too deep to get out of the remainder of the night.

Clinton County trailed 11-0 at the end of the opening quarter and were unable to cut much off of that lead by the end of the first half of play, trailing by 10 at halftime, 22-13.

The Lady Rebels continued to control the complete upper hand for the remainder of the contest, holding a 36-19 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs owned the fourth and final quarter of play, outscoring Casey County 24-14 in those final eight minutes of action.

Even that final performance proved to be too little, too late for Clinton County, however, as the early hole was simply too deep for the Lady Dawgs to work themselves out of.

Clinton County eventually cut its deficit to the single digit mark, but ran out of time before being able to mount a complete comeback against the Lady Raiders, losing by seven points, 50-43.

Franklin-Simpson – 50

Taking the floor for the first time in front of a home crowd last Friday proved to be no advantage for the Lady Bulldogs as they played host to the Lady Wildcats of Franklin-Simpson High School.

Although it appeared that the Lady Bulldogs were in control of their game as the contest first got underway, things went south for the Lady Bulldogs and the result was an eventual 50-38 defeat at the hands of the Lady Cats.

The Lady Dawgs appeared to be in control as the game first got underway, closing out the opening quarter of action out in front of Franklin-Simpson by a single basket, 10-8.

The Lady Wildcats quickly moved to the front in the opening minutes of the second quarter and by halftime were on possession of a six point lead over Clinton County, 20-14.

With inexperience continuing to be their biggest issue on the floor, the Lady Bulldogs were putting forth a good effort against the Lady Cats, but found themselves unable to close the scoring gap.

Trailing by seven at the end of the third quarter, 31-24, the Lady Dawgs eventually gave up the final decision by 12 points against the Lady Cats, 50-38.
