Hometown Coalition salutes Amy Claborn and Phyllis Lee for making healthy choices as a mother-daughter team

by Amy Claborn

My name is Amy Claborn and with my mother, Phyllis Lee, started our weight loss journey with Weight Watchers in May 2015.

Together we have lost almost 100 pounds with the Weight Watchers plan. We had both followed Weight Watchers in the past and knew it was a great plan to follow. Weight Watchers recently implemented and new plan called Beyond The Scale. It really focuses on eating better, respecting yourself and feeling your best.

With this plan you have a daily food point allowance and they encourage some form of exercise and daily time for yourself.

We attend weekly meetings where we weigh in and get encouragement from our leader and fellow members.

Attending meetings really helps me be accountable for what I eat and how I follow the plan.

As I stated before, Mom and I had done Weight Watchers in the past and knew it really worked. We both had not been attending meetings for several years and had slowly started to put our weight back on.

I personally weighed more than I ever have in my life. I hated the way I looked and felt. Mom had found a meeting in Livingston and started attending in March, then a meeting started in May in Byrdstown.

Since then we have been going every Tuesday night. We really love the plan and all the benefits it offers. It is really important to attend the weekly meetings for support but you can also do Weight Watchers online.

All the food you eat has point value that you track for your daily allowance. If you have a smart phone you can track with the WW app or if not they have a special calculator to figure food point values.

When you join WW you have access to WW online and they offer tons of support for your weight loss plan. Weight Watchers is a great plan that not only helps you lose weight but helps you maintain your weight loss throughout your lifetime.

Anyone interested in learning more about Weight Watchers or coming to a meeting, please call me at 606-387-4472. We meet every Tuesday night at Byrdstown Community Center with weigh-in starting at 4:45 and meeting at 5:30. Hope to see you there.
