Clinton County Board of Education held a special meeting last Thursday afternoon, December 10, making it in all likelihood its final meeting of the year, as the session was held in lieu of the regularly scheduled meeting.
With all four active members on hand, they first recognized some students from the Area Technology Center and also recognized Dalton Gregory, who was recently selected to the prestigious Jack Kent Young Scholars Program, an honor in which only seven of 2,000 applicants nationwide received.
After approving between meeting disbursements and voting to pay claims and bills, Finance Director Mike Reeves gave the monthly financial report, noting that revenues for the month were better this year than the same month a year ago. He also said he was in the process of putting together the first of three budgets–the draft version–which will be presented to the board in January for review.
Board chairperson Paula Key then gave the monthly personnel report, as follows:
* Substitute teachers: Joseph Glidewell, Clinton Middle School and CCHS; Martha Harlan, CCHS; Angela Melton and Sallye Boils, district-wide.
* Classified hired: Johnnie Hicks, 9th grade girls’ basketball coach.
The board then voted to establish a certified exceptional education teacher position, primarily for the Early Childhood Center and Albany Elementary School.
The board then voted to change the Transportation Director position from an hourly paid position to a salary paid position, and to approve an extra service increment of $3,000, effective immediately. This will reflect in the classified salary schedule that is approved annually. Further, they approved the revision of the job description for Transportation Director.
The board then voted to enter into an agreement with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) for the purpose of FAFSA Completion Initiative Data Sharing, which basically shares student aid information between the district and KHEAA.
The monthly meeting schedule for 2016 was approved and includes two meetings per month, the regular business meeting the third Monday of each month at 5 p.m. and a work session meeting each prior Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Second reading of an amendment to graduation requirements and Alternate Credit Options Policy was approved, as well as the district’s annual Comprehensive District Improvement Plan.
After approving an overnight trip for some CCHS band members to Western Kentucky University’s Honor Band Clinic in Bowling Green January 21-23, Superintendent Charlotte Bernard gave the monthly attendance report for the fourth month of the school year.
The fourth month ran from November 5 through December and attendance overall was up by a tenth of a percent, standing at 93.7 for the month. The school with the highest Average Daily Attendance was Albany Elementary and Clinton County Middle School was the most improved.
Superintendent Bernard then gave the monthly superintendent’s report, noting the work that had been done on the district Comprehensive Improvement Plan. She also noted that Cyber Day packets, explaining the new program, had been sent home to parents and they had also been notified by One Call. The Cyber Day initiative, which allows students to basically continue class days online, or getting course work to complete at home, would not kick in until at least six school days are missed.
Bernard also noted the district was in the process of revisiting the school facilities plan, and plan for possible future needs the schools may face in the coming years.
The next meeting of the school board will be a work session on Thursday, January 14 at 4:30 p.m. and its next business meeting on Monday, January 18 at 5 p.m., both at the Central Office board room and both open to the general public.
