The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, along with the Albany Police Department, responded to a call Thursday, December 10 at 3:29 p.m. evolving a school bus window that had been shot out on Division Road, just off Kentucky Hwy. 1590.

Sheriff Jim Guffey said he was on his way to Wayne County when the call came in and he responded within four minutes of the first call.

“I arrived on scene and my first priority was the safety of the kids,” Guffey said. “I got on the bus and told the kids to get down and we got the bus moved. After that we received more information about the incident.”

Guffey said the bus was shot with a BB gun and plastic BBs.

“That’s a call you don’t ever want to get,” Guffey said. “We learned on the scene that the back window of the bus was shot out by a juvenile.

According to the time line from the Clinton County Dispatch, the shooter was in custody and the weapon was secured at 3:44 p.m., just shortly after the initial call had come in.

“Nobody was injured and we did charge the juvenile with wanton endangerment and criminal mischief,” Guffey said. “We all worked good together, us and the EMS Director Lonnie Scott and the Albany Police Department.”

Guffey said Officer Ricky Marcum and Constable Andy Butler were also on the scene and assisted with the investigation.

“The kids were everyone’s priority that day. Superintendent Charlotte Bernard was even on scene,” Guffey said.

Clinton County School’s Superintendent Charlotte Bernard issued a brief, one paragraph statement last Friday, saying: “On Thursday afternoon, December 10, 2015 at approximately 3:35 p.m., a school bus window was struck by a BB gun pellet. No students were injured. The perpetrator is a minor who does not attend Clinton County schools. An investigation is ongoing by Sheriff Jim Guffey.”
