Turnovers … by Alan B. Gibson

A couple of normal roundball weeks ahead

As I write this week’s Turnovers offerings, we’re staring at a couple of “normal” weeks ahead on the basketball schedule – at least as normal as basketball schedules get in Kentucky.

Tuesday night of this week – provided it didn’t spit snow anywhere in the two counties anytime Tuesday, we were set to head to Pickett County for a double header against the Bobcats in a game that for many, many years, was absent from the schedule despite the short distance – about 15 miles – between our two gyms, not to mention the number of fans who have relatives and relationships on both sides of the borders.

It was a game that myself and now Pickett County resident and former Bulldog Tom Allen campaigned for several years ago and were finally successful in getting everyone on board.

Here’s hoping a good relationship can again be harvested between the two programs in this sport and the game can continue.

Looking ahead, we are slated to be in the Lindle Castle Gymnasium two times later this week – playing host to Metcalfe County in a GV/BV double header this Friday night, followed by a BJV/BV hosting of Harlan County on Saturday afternoon. The Friday night tip is set for a normal 6:00 p.m., with Saturday’s BJV tip slated for 4:00 p.m.

Additionally, our Lady Dawgs will be playing Taylor County on Saturday in a Russell County High hosted classic event. Tip-off for that game is set for 12:45.

On next Tuesday, January 11, both varsity squads head over to neighboring Burkesville to take on Cumberland County.

Dress it up for Friday’s Pink-Out

Local fans should take notice to get the pink duds out Friday and come to the game in your finest “Pink-Out” attire.

CCHS Athletic Director Mike Beard informed me earlier this week that the annual Pink-Out game has been set for Friday night’s double-header outing against Metcalfe County.

Of course the special night is designed as a way to recognize local cancer survivors, and to raise awareness to the attempts to raise funds to help with research in the battle against cancer.

Special events surrounding the Pink-Out night will be held during the night.

I’ll see you in the gym,
