Lady Dawgs drop three games in home tourney

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs moved its record to 1-15 on the year with four losses in the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic held last week at Lindle Castle Gymnasium.

As reported in last week’s edition, Clinton County lost its first game against Red Boiling Springs 55-49.

On Tuesday, the Lady Dawgs had two games with the first being against Presentation. Clinton County lost the contest by 10 points, 56-46. The second game of the day came against Beechwood later Tuesday night. Clinton County lost the game 67-42.

In the final game of the tournament for Clinton County, the Lady Dawgs took on Clay County. The result saw the Lady Dawgs defeated, 67-51.

Wednesday’s game in the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic saw Clinton County fall by 16 points, 67-51.

During the first quarter, Clinton County struggled from the floor, finding themselves down nine midway through the period, 11-2.

Clay County continued to control the game during the first quarter and finished with a 23-5 lead over the Lady Dawgs.

During the second quarter, Clinton County begin to add points to the board, but Clay County didn’t let up on the offensive end. With 3:41 on the clock, Clay County went up by 20 points, 36-16, but by the end of the period, Clinton County had cut the lead to 12 points on a 10-2 run, 38-26.

The third quarter saw Clay County remain in control as they added 17 points to the board during the period.

Clinton County added 15 during the third period to trail by only 14 points by the start of the fourth quarter, 55-41.

Clay County took its time during the final quarter and ran the clock down on the Lady Dawgs. Clinton County posted 10 points for the quarter, but Clay County put up 12 in order to get the 16 point victory, 67-51.

Clinton County opened Tuesday night’s game against Beechwood on a positive note by grabbing a quick 3-0 lead on a basket by Allie Hopper and a free throw by Macy Campbell.

Beechwood then started adding points to the board and at the 3:10 mark, had a 10-4 lead over Clinton County.

Beechwood finished the quarter by adding six more points and holding Clinton County scoreless for a 16-4 lead.

Clinton County couldn’t find a good flow during the second quarter as Beechwood continued to control the game. The Lady Dawgs only added 10 points to its side of the board during the second quarter, but Beechwood added 18 for a 34-14 halftime lead.

During the third quarter, Clinton County still struggled on defense, but managed to put up more points on offense than it had in the previous quarters.

By the end of the period, Beechwood remained in control and led the Dawgs by 22 points, 49-27.

It was much of the same for the final quarter as Clinton County was outscored 18-13. The Lady Dawgs made a small run in the final quarter, but the effort was too late and the Lady Dawgs were in too deep a hole as Beechwood held on for the win, 67-42.

On the first game for the Lady Dawgs on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, Clinton County took on Presentation.

In the first quarter, Presentation jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but a three pointer by Rylee Stockton tied the game with 5:50 on the clock.

Both teams would struggle from the floor for the remainder of the period with Presentation coming out on top at the end of the eight minutes, 12-7.

During the second quarter, Presentation came out in a full court press that caused problems for the Lady Dawgs.

Presentation quickly jumped out to a 10 point lead midway through the quarter, 19-9. Clinton County fought back and just before the half was over, had cut the lead to six points, 26-20.

Presentation finished the half by hitting two foul shots for a 28-20 halftime lead.

It didn’t take long in the third quarter for Presentation to pull away farther from the Lady Dawgs.

The Lady Toppers reached a 10 point lead with 6:25 on the clock, 32-22, and outscored the Lady Dawgs 5-3 for a 12 point lead, 37-25 midway in the quarter.

The Dawgs finished the quarter with a 10 point deficet, 43-33.

During the fourth quarter, both teams matched each other with 13 points. Clinton County was unable to undo the damage created by the full court pressure during the second quarter, which gave the Lady Dawgs the 10 point loss, 56-46.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Pickett County Tennessee Tuesday night, too late for press deadline, and will host Metcalfe County Friday night at 6 p.m.

Alexis Roberts was double-teamed during Clinton County’s game against Presentation during the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic last Tuesday. Clinton County moved to 1-15 after the tournament.
