Lady Dawgs move to 1-18 on the year

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs played three games this week and all three games resulted in a loss for the Lady Dawgs, which brings its record to 1-18 on the year.

Clinton County’s first game came against Pickett County on Tuesday night, falling to a very good Lady Bobcat squad, 93-19.

Friday night the Lady Dawgs hosted Metcalfe County and was defeated 64-52, and Saturday the team traveled to Russell County to take on Green County only to fall short of a victory, 64-40.

The Lady Dawgs went on the road Saturday to Russell County to play in the Hardwood Classic. Clinton County’s game saw the Lady Dawgs go up against Green County.

During the first quarter, Green County quickly took control of the game and led 28-8 after the first eight minutes.

As the second quarter got underway, Clinton County only put up 10 points to Green County’s 12 for a 40-18 halftime deficit.

Green County outscored Clinton County in the third quarter 16-9 for a 56-27 lead over the Lady Dawgs, but Clinton County outscored Green County in the fourth quarter 13-12. The damage, however, had already been done as the Lady Dawgs drop its 18th game of the season, 64-40.

Metcalfe County 62

The Lady Dawgs hosted Metcalfe County Friday night for the second meeting between the two teams. The last time the two teams faced off, Metcalfe County won 59-35 on December 11, 2015. This time, Clinton County kept the score closer throughout the four quarters.

The game was close early on as Metcalfe jumped out with the first basket, 3-0. Hopper hit a three pointer to tie the game up, but a 6-0 run saw Metcalfe County move up to a 9-3 lead.

Hopper scored a three point play to cut the lead to three points, but Metcalfe County quickly extended its lead to five on a field goal 11-6.

Clinton County finished the quarter with only four more points as Metcalfe County added 10 to the board for a 21-10 first quarter lead over the Lady Dawgs.

During the second quarter, Clinton County started to fight back and chipped away at the lead somewhat. The Lady Dawgs outscored Metcalfe County 13-10 during the quarter and got to within eight points at the half, 31-23.

During the start of the third quarter, Metcalfe County remained in control and reached a 12 point lead midway through the period, 40-28.

Clinton County then put together a 5-2 run to cut the lead to seven points with two minutes on the clock, 42-35.

The Lady Dawgs finished the quarter with only a single point as Metcalfe County hit two baskets for a 10 point third quarter lead, 46-36.

The Lady Dawgs continued to struggle from the floor in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets added two three point baskets for a 16 point edge, 52-36.

The Lady Dawgs then put together a 7-2 run to get to within 11 points, 54-43.

As Metcalfe added six more points to the board, Clinton County added only a single bucket for a score of 60-45.

During the final 1:25 of the game, Clinton County went for one last push before the game ended, but the damage was already done as the Lady Dawgs were defeated by eight points, 64-52.

On Tuesday, Clinton County traveled to Pickett County to take on the Lady Bobcats.

It was clear in the first quarter that the Lady Bobcats were the superior team as Pickett County put up 42 points in the first quarter compared to Clinton County’s six.

During the second quarter, Clinton County only put up five points against Pickett County as the Lady Bobcats led 56-11 at the half.

After the third quarter had ended, Clinton County found itself down 59 points, 75-16.

The Lady Dawgs only scored three points in the final period to reach a final score of 93-19.

Clinton County was back in action Tuesday night as the Lady Dawgs traveled to Cumberland County. The Lady Dawgs will also be back in action Friday as Russell County comes to The Castle. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

Alexis Roberts went after a loose ball during Clinton County’s matchup against neighboring Pickett County, Tennessee last week. The Lady Dawgs lost the game, 93-19.

Cori Langford went up for a layup against Metcalfe County Friday night at The Castle. Clinton County lost the game, 62-54. Langford finished with 13 points.
