Bulldogs fall to Pickett, get revenge against Metcalfe

The Bulldogs played two games this week with the first coming on the road against Pickett County. The Bobcats defeated the Dawgs by a final score of 68-59.

On Friday night, Clinton County took out revenge on Metcalfe County for the loss during the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic in December. Clinton County defeated the Hornets, 75-46.

The Bulldogs hosted Metcalfe County Friday night in the third meeting between the two teams. Clinton County won the first matchup on December 11 53-30, but lost the second game during the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic 63-56.

Friday night, Clinton County got its revenge, defeating the Hornets, 75-46.

During the first quarter, Clinton County came out strong with a 4-0 early lead. Metcalfe County cut the lead to one point on a three pointer and took the lead with a field goal at the 6:30 mark.

The Dawgs then put together an 8-0 run to lead 12-5.

The Dawgs finished the quarter when Jamison Summers tipped in a miss at the buzzer to lead 19-11.

Clinton County continued to roll in the second quarter, scoring 10 straight points for a 29-11 lead. During the second quarter, Clinton County managed to hold the Hornets to only six points for the quarter as the Dawgs went into the locker room with a 40-17 lead.

The third quarter went much like the previous two as Clinton County continued to remain in control of the game. The Dawgs posted 15 points in the quarter to lead by 24 points, 55-31.

The Dawgs didn’t let up in the fourth quarter by putting up 20 points in the period to Metcalfe County’s 15.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, Clinton County had extended its lead and defeated the Hornets by 29 points, 75-46.

The Bulldogs took the floor Tuesday night in front of a packed crowd at Pickett County High School. The Bulldogs and the Bobcats are finally back on each other’s schedules after several years of not playing one another.

During the first quarter of Tuesday night’s matchup, Clinton County jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Pickett County would score, 4-2. Clinton County continued to control the game and reached an 8-2 lead before Pickett County started to put points on the board.

Both teams were back and forth during the first quarter with Pickett County taking its first lead at the 1:16 mark, 18-16.

Clinton County answered with back-to-back baskets from Jamison Summers for a two point lead, 20-18.

Pickett County finished the quarter tying the game at 20 with a last second shot.

During the second quarter, Clinton County continued to keep the game close with Brett Gibson hitting from behind the three point line, as well as several players on Pickett County’s squad.

With 3:38 on the clock, both teams were tied again at 30. Clinton County then hit three free throws to reach a two point lead, after Pickett County had hit one from the line, 33-31.

Pickett County then had seven unanswered points to finish the half with a five point lead, 38-33.

Clinton County came out of the locker room after halftime and struggled from the floor.

Pickett County extended its lead throughout the period and reached a 10 point lead at the end of the eight minutes.

During the fourth quarter, Clinton County remained cold from the floor as Pickett County continued to put points on the board.

Midway through the period, Gibson hit a three pointer to get to within eight points of the Bobcats, 58-50.

Summers cut the lead to six points on a basket with 3:22 on the clock, but strong shooting from the free throw line by the Bobcats made it impossible for the Dawgs to catchup.

After being down by 12 with 1:48 on the clock, Clinton County cut the lead to seven points on a three pointer by Gibson with 1:07 remaining, 66-59, but that would be the last time Clinton County would put points on the board as the Dawgs were defeated, 68-59.

Clinton County was back in action on Tuesday as the Dawgs headed to Cumberland County. The Dawgs will also play host to Russell County on Friday with tip off immediately following the girls’ game, which starts at 6 p.m.

Jackson Harlan went up for a shot and was fouled during Friday night’s game against Metcalfe County. Harlan finished the game with four points as the Dawgs won, 75-46.

Jeffery Collins came off the bench and scored nine points during Friday night’s game against Metcalfe County. The Dawgs moved to 11-6 on the year.
