Lady Dawgs win against McCreary, fall to Allen County/Scottsville and Wayne County

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs picked up its third win of the season Saturday against McCreary Central, 68-65, but dropped two other games last week at the hands of Allen County-Scottsville, 51-25, and Wayne County Monday night, 65-32.

The mercy rule went into effect Monday night as the Lady Dawgs traveled to Wayne County. The 35-point margin was met in the second half causing the clock to continuously run.

Clinton County started the game on a fairly good note, getting down 4-0 before Kayla Dicken scored a three point play to cut the lead to one, 4-3.

Wayne County managed to score on the next possession pushing the lead to three, but a three pointer by Macy Campbell tied the score at six, followed by a basket by Cori Langford for a two point lead, 8-6.

Wayne County scored the final four points of the period to take a 10-8 lead after the first quarter.

During the second quarter, Wayne County began to pull away scoring 13 unanswered points for a 23-8 lead over the Lady Dawgs.

Clinton County managed to put some points on the board during the second quarter, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game close.

During the latter part of the second quarter, Head Coach Darrell Thompson was called for a technical foul sending Wayne County to the line and getting the ball back on possession.

The Lady Dawgs finished the half with a 41-17 deficit.

During the second half, Clinton County continued to struggle from the floor as Wayne County held the Lady Dawgs to only nine points for the period while putting up 17 for a 58-26 third quarter lead.

As the final quarter rolled around, Clinton County didn’t fair well on offense as Wayne County held the Lady Dawgs to only six points for a 65-32 final score.

McCreary Central 65

The Lady Dawgs picked up win number three on the year Saturday after a hard fought contest.

During the opening minutes of the game, Clinton County found itself down 10-0, but a spark from the Lady Dawgs saw Clinton County with its own 10-0 run to tied the game at 10 with 1:25 on the clock.

McCreary Central scored a field goal to regain the lead, 12-10, but with 56 seconds remaining, Mackenzie Polston hit a three pointer to put the Lady Dawgs up by one point at the end of the period, 13-12.

During the second quarter, Allie Hopper started it off by making a field goal to grab a three point lead, 15-12.

McCreary Central tied the score on a three point play and followed that with two field goals for a 19-15 lead.

Clinton County’s Alexis Roberts then banked in a three pointer to cut the lead to one, 19-18, but another three point play by McCreary Central saw the Lady Raiders regain a four point lead, 22-18.

The Dawgs continued to battle for the remainder of the half, but let McCreary Central grab a seven point lead at the break, 32-25.

Macy Campbell, who didn’t score in the first half of play, was able to get points on the board during the second half by hitting the first goal of the third period, cutting the McCreary Central lead to five points, 32-27.

The Lady Raiders hit back-to-back field goals to move ahead by nine points, but a 14-1 run saw Clinton County take control of the game and the lead, 41-37 with 1:19 remaining in the third.

McCreary Central scored two baskets to tie the score at 41, but two free throws by Hopper put the Lady Dawgs up by two to start the fourth quarter, 43-41.

During the fourth quarter, Clinton County continued to play good solid basketball. With several baskets coming from Kayla Dicken, Hopper and Campbell, the Lady Dawgs were on a mission to take the win.

McCreary Central tied the game with 2:45 remaining and took the lead on the next possession, 59-57.

With 1:47 remaining, Hopper tied the score at 59, followed by a field goal by Cori Langford for a two point lead, 61-59.

McCreary Central regained the lead on a three point play, 62-61 with 1:36 on the clock.

The Lady Dawgs took the lead for the final time on a putback by Campbell at the 1:20 mark, 63-62, followed by two foul shots from Campbell, 65-62.

After two misses from the foul line by McCreary Central, Clinton County’s Roberts made one of two from the line to grab a four point lead, 66-62 with 17 seconds remaining.

McCreary Central didn’t give up and scored from the foul line on its next possession to cut the lead to two points, 66-64.

Roberts was again sent to the line with nine seconds where she made one of two to reach a three point lead, 67-64.

With 1.8 remaining and after a missed attempt at a field goal, McCreary Central hit one of two from the line to cut the lead to two points, 67-65. On the final possession Campbell was fouled with .3 seconds remaining where she hit one of two from the line, 68-65. That would prove to be enough as Clinton County picked up its third win of the season.

Clinton County started Friday night’s game hitting a three pointer for an early lead. Allen County-Scottsville quickly got on the board with back-to-back field goals to take a 4-3 lead.

Christina Collins hit a basket at the 3:59 mark to give Clinton County a 5-4 lead, but ACS scored four straight to end the quarter, 8-5.

During the second quarter, both teams struggled from the floor, especially ACS, who is highly ranked in the 4th Region.

According to the Cantrell Rating posted in the Lexington Herald-Leader, ACS is ranked fourth in the 4th Region with a 78.4 rating while Clinton County is ranked 16th with a 44.5 rating.

ACS only outscored Clinton County 11-5 in the second quarter, bringing the halftime score to 19-10 in favor to ACS.

During the third quarter, ACS started putting points on the board and Clinton County didn’t have an answer for it.

The Lady Patriots posted 17 points during the third period compared to Clinton County’s nine for a 36-19 score at the start of the fourth quarter.

The final quarter didn’t go very well for the Lady Dawgs as Clinton County continued to struggle from the floor.

During the eight minute period, the Lady Dawgs only posted six points while ACS put up 15.

Clinton County lost the game by a final score of 51-25.

Clinton County will be back in action Saturday at home as the Lady Dawgs host Pulaski County at 5:30 p.m.
