More Mother Nature to deal with – but Senior Night is slated

Here we go again with Mother Nature and the snow she continues to throw at us as we try to get this 2015-16 basketball season finished out and try to head into post-season play.

With Monday’s snowfall cancelling school – and games across most of the 4th Region Monday night and Tuesday, Clinton County was somewhat fortunate in that our varsity schedule was clear with no games to be played until we are set to play host to 4th Region rival Monroe County this Friday night, February 12.

As we wind down, you can now count on one hand (4) the number of varsity outings still in front of us before that season ending contest on Thursday, February 18 against the Barren County squads.

If all remaining games go as they appear on the schedule, we will play host to Monroe this Friday night in double-header action with a girls’ varsity tip at 6:00 p.m., our girls will head to McCreary Central on Saturday to face the Lady Raiders with a 5:30 p.m. junior varsity tip and the boys will head to Bowling Green to take on South Warren Monday with a 5:00 p.m. junior varsity tip.

Those three outings will lead up to our regular season finale on Thursday, February 18, a double-header outing with a regular girls’ varsity tip of 6:00 p.m.

Senior night is this Friday

Traditionally, senior night is set aside for the final home game of the year, but things are always subject to change – some for the better.

The situation last year when Mother Nature threw a curve at school officials and more snow saw the final home game of the season cancelled, it left us with no way to properly honor our seniors.

Of course there was a make-shift Senior Night event held during the opening night of the 16th District Tournament the next week at Metcalfe County, and while that was the best of a bad situation, it still wasn’t the same as honoring the seniors on our home floor.

Thus the change – Senior night will be held this Friday night when the Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs play host to Monroe County. That opens up the possibility of at least having another home game on the schedule (Barren County, February 18) to fall back on to reschedule senior night festivities, should things with the weather go bad again.

Good thinking, good plan.

Radio Auction reminder II

While the most details will be released next week, just a gentle reminder here that the annual Basketball Boosters Club / WANY Radio Auction is slated to be held Friday, February 19. We are again planning to run the program beginning at 5:00 p.m. and continuing until we’re all out of items – normally around 10:00 p.m.

Interested in making a donation, or even volunteering and getting in on the fun, contact Booster Club President Kim Gibson.

More next week.

I’ll see you in the gym
