Lady Dawgs still working to improve

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs hosted Pulaski County Saturday at The Castle in what turned out to be a lop-sided loss for the ladies in blue.

Pulaski County started the game with a field goal, but two free throws by Cori Langford and a basket by Kayla Dicken put Clinton County on top, 4-2, with 6:10 on the clock.

It didn’t take long for Pulaski County to get in its own rhythm, putting together a 14-2 run with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, 16-6.

Clinton County finished the quarter by scoring a basket with 15 seconds remaining, but Pulaski County added four more points to the board to lead 20-8 at the end of one.

Pulaski County picked up where it left off in the first quarter by putting together a 10-3 run to lead 30-13. Langford hit one of two from the line at the 2:40 mark, 30-14, followed by a basket by Allie Hopper at the 1:40 mark to cut the lead to 14 points, 30-16.

Pulaski County finished the half with three more points and the Lady Dawgs finished with a free throw by Hopper for a 33-17 halftime score.

The second half went much the same for the Lady Dawgs. Clinton County struggled from the floor on offense, while Pulaski County pretty much scored at will.

By the end of the third, Pulaski County reached a 19 point lead, 49-30.

The final quarter saw Pulaski County put up more points against the Lady Dawgs. The Lady Maroons posted 27 points in the quarter as Clinton County only posted 11.

Pulaski County picked up the win, 76-41. Clinton County moved its record to 3-23 on the year.

Clinton County will be back in action Friday night at home as the Lady Dawgs host Monroe County. Friday night is also this year’s senior night. With last year’s senior night canceled due to snow and weather, officials at Clinton County High School scheduled senior night early in case weather is an issue this year.

Kayla Dicken put up a shot in the lane during the first half against Pulaski County on Saturday. The Lady Dawgs dropped the game, moving its record to 3-23 on the year. Dicken finished with five points.

Christina Collins and Rylee Stockton provided backcourt defense during Clinton County’s matchup against Pulaski County on Saturday. The Lady Dawgs lost the contest, 76-41.
