Dawgs drop two games last week

The Clinton County Bulldogs traveled to Somerset Saturday to play McCreary Central in a one game jamboree tournament.

Clinton County didn’t fare well against the 12th Region opponent, falling 63-47 and moving to 14-10 on the year.

Clinton County’s matchup against McCreary Central didn’t turn out like Head Coach Todd Messer wanted it to, but the game started off on a good note for the Bulldogs as Clinton County led by two points at the end of the first quarter, 15-13.

Things fell apart in the second quarter as McCreary Central held the Dawgs to only 10 points for the period while putting up 20 on their side.

At the halftime break, McCreary Central led the Dawgs, 33-25.

As Clinton County came out after halftime, the Dawgs continued to struggle from the floor. Colin Langford hit two free throws and a field goal and Eli Brown hit a basket to account for all six of Clinton County’s third quarter points.

McCreary County continued to roll in the third quarter, posting 17 for the period and leading the Dawgs, 50-31.

During the final quarter, Clinton County did outscore the Raiders, 16-13, but the third quarter damage was hard to overcome for the Dawgs.

McCreary County defeated Clinton County by a final score of 63-47 and handed the Dawgs its 10th loss of the year.

The Clinton County Bulldogs hosted Caverna Tuesday night in what turned out to be a poor shooting night for the boys in blue.

The Dawgs started out cold and never recovered as Caverna scored at will through the entire game.

During the first quarter, Clinton County fell behind early as Caverna posted an opening 7-2 run.

That run continued as the Colonels jumped out to a 16-6 lead and finished the quarter with a 21-10 advantage.

Clinton County’s play in the second quarter was the same as it was in the first. The Dawgs struggled from the floor and struggled to keep Caverna from scoring.

At the half, Caverna led the Dawgs 40-22.

During the third quarter, fans saw a little life in the Dawgs’ play. It took most of the period, but Clinton County did manage to cut Caverna’s lead to 12 points, 52-40 with 1:56 remaining in the third.

With the threat of the Dawgs getting back in the game, Caverna also stepped up its game and finished the quarter with a 6-2 run for a 58-42 lead over the Dawgs.

During the final quarter, Clinton County tried to find a way to play catch up, but the hole for the Dawgs kept getting deeper.

Caverna ended up scoring 21 points in the quarter compared to Clinton County’s 16 for the 79-58 win over the Dawgs.

Clinton County will be back in action on Friday night, which is also scheduled as senior night for Clinton County.

Chad Smith went up for a shot during the second half against Caverna Tuesday night. The Dawgs lost the contest, 79-58. Smith finished with 12 points.
