I’ve been saying this for a long time – the entire region finally sees it
I’ve been at this position as well as behind the official table doing Public Address duties at Clinton County High School basketball games for nearly (closing out a season this week) 38 full seasons now.
During that stretch of time, I’ve worked with every single Athletic Director since the job was first named at CCHS back in the late 1970s.
Some made it look hard, others made it look easier, but I’ve often said in this space, as well as in casual conversations, that currently, Clinton County High School has the best, most thorough, most dedicated Athletic Director we’ve ever had, and one of the best in Kentucky – bar none!
No matter what the sport and no matter what the duty, Mike Beard won’t sit still until he’s convinced that every i has been dotted, every t has been crossed, and every issue has been addressed before the contest gets underway.
Doesn’t matter if it’s a basketball game, golf match, cross country meet or any of the rest of the sports in the Big Blue lineup – it’s going to be as right as it can be before Mike sits down and enjoys the moment. He doesn’t do all that he does for the glory, and he certainly doesn’t do it for the pay. He does it for the youngsters wearing the blue and white and to make our community look as good as he possibly can.
Finally, word came last week that his hard work has been recognized by others when I learned that Mike has been named 4th Region Athletic Director of the Year.
The honor came from his peers, voted on by the 16 other Athletic Directors in our 4th Region.
With this honor, Mike is now nominated for the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association’s Father Harry Jansing Athletic Director of the Year award.
Congrats Mike. You’re the best. Give him a pat or two on the back when you see him – he certainly deserves the honor.
Show up Thursday – you could leave a little richer
Thursday night at The Castle will be an event filled night with all of the Senior Night festivities going on along with the final home basketball game of regular season play against Barren County.
In addition, you could leave the gym with a pretty single “jingle” in your pocket as well.
Cumberland Family Medical Center will sponsor a half-court shooting event. One person will get one chance to make a basket from half-court. Hit it, and they’ll hand over $1000.
More Mother Nature to deal with II – Senior Night is Thursday
Another round of white stuff again played havoc with the roundball schedule and for the second year in a row, messed with Friday’s Senior Night plans. Fortunately, unlike what happened last year, as I mentioned last week in this space, there is a backup plan in place, and it looks like this time, Mother Nature might cooperate.
Senior Night will be held Thursday at the final regular season game when we play host to Barren County.
Radio Auction reminder III
For a while last week and early this week, the aforementioned issues with snow gave some pretty serious indications that games would be moved around and makeup games would be played, forcing once again, organizers to move this week’s planned WANY Basketball Booster Club Radio Auction.
Not the case, when all was said and done, so be ready this Friday evening, February 19, when we take the airwaves once again for the club’s largest fund-raising event.
A separate article appears this week on page 1 giving more pertinent details about this Friday night’s event, and by now, surely most everyone knows how it all works, so this reminder is just that, a short reminder to either tune in (100.9), be ready to call (387-5569) and do it often.
Or, get in the car and come on out to the cafeteria and get in on the fun up close and personal.
The main thing to remember is that all of the monies raised will go to benefit the varsity basketball programs at CCHS.
Beforehand, thanks to all of the business owners, professionals, and individuals who donated again this year, thanks to the club members who have worked so hard to put the details together, and thanks to the public who will bid and buy for your support – from myself and from those who will benefit – our youngsters who represent the community every time they put on the blue and white uniform.
As always – a large time will be had by all.
I’ll see you in the gym
