In a week that saw Mother Nature play havoc with the final lineup of games in regular season play, the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs were able to take the court only once.
Traveling deep into the 12th Region to face the McCreary Central Lady Raiders, Clinton County returned home late Saturday night having suffered a 52-37 loss.
That loss was a tale of two halves for the Lady Dawgs, who came out early in the contest looking like a team eager to pick up a road win, but ending after a second half that saw little forward advancement on Clinton County’s part.
The Bulldogs opened up fast and hard as the game got underway with Cori Langford picking up the opening basket of the contest to put into motion a 6-0 run by Clinton County to get the contest underway.
McCreary countered with a three point play mid-way through the quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs continued to dominate the offensive effort as the first quarter came to a close with Clinton County holding a 12-5 lead.
Macy Campbell opened the second quarter with a basket to put the Lady Dawgs out in front 14-5 and McCreary Central came back with a 6-0 run to close the gap to 14-11.
Additional scoring by Campbell, Rylee Stockton and Allie Hopper saw the second quarter come to an end with the Lady Dawgs still out in front by five points, 20-15.
The second half belonged solely to the Lady Raiders with Clinton County coming out for the third and fourth quarters of play looking as if someone had taken all of the energy out of their game.
McCreary tied the Lady Bulldogs within the first minute of second half action at 20-20, and just two minutes later, had managed to overtake Clinton County with the first Lady Raider lead of the contest, 24-22.
The Lady Raiders outscored Clinton County 18-6 in third quarter action to hold a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter of play, 33-26.
The fourth and final quarter of play was again a period of Lady Raider domination as McCreary outscored the Lady Bulldogs 19-11 in the last eight minute stretch to end the contest with a 15 point victory over Clinton County, 52-37.
The loss will send the Lady Bulldogs into its final game of regular season play this Thursday night as Clinton County plays host to Barren County on a night that will also see the Big Blue honor its seniors during the annual Senior Night ceremony.
