The Clinton County Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will make the short drive to Russell County High School next week to take part in the 2016 16th District Tournament.
For the Bulldogs, Clinton County took the number two seed in this year’s tournament, with a record of 4-2 on the year.
Clinton County was defeated by Russell County twice during the regular season, 74-65 and 64-43 for its only two district losses that counted toward district pairings. Clinton County was defeated by Metcalfe County during the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic, 63-56, however, that game didn’t count toward the district standings.
The Bulldogs will take on number three seed Cumberland County on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
Cumberland County, along with Metcalfe County, finished the season with a 1-5 district record, with the Panthers drawing the number three seed for the tournament.
The Panthers defeated Metcalfe County 69-49 on January 5, but Metcalfe County won the two teams first match up on December 8, 50-48, giving both Metcalfe and Cumberland a 1-5 records for the year.
Metcalfe County, drawing the number four seed, will play Russell County, the number one seed, on Monday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Russell County defeated all other teams in the district both times during the season for a 6-0 record, claiming the number one spot.
The championship game for the district tournament will be on Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m.
For the Lady Dawgs, a tie for the third and fourth seeds occuried as the Lady Dawgs defeated Cumberland County on January 12, 40-36, but lost the matchup on December 15, 49-44. Both teams finished with a 1-5 record.
Metcalfe County defeated both Cumberland County and Clinton County twice during the regular season, but was defeated by Russell County twice to earn the number two seed.
Russell County finished the regular season with a 6-0 record for the number one spot.
The Lady Dawgs will play Russell County on Monday, February 22, at 6 p.m.
Metcalfe County and Cumberland County will face off on Tuesday night, February 23, at 6 p.m.
The championship game for the girls will be played on Thursday, February 25 at 7 p.m.
Lady Bulldog Head Coach Darrell Thompson and his Lady Bulldogs open up 16th District play against Russell County next Monday night at Russell County High School. The Bulldogs will face Cumberland County in first round action on Tuesday night.
