Meeting will focus on herbicide resistant weed control

The Clinton and Cumberland County Extension offices are partnering to hold a grain/silage producer meeting on weed control in row crops with a focus on herbicide resistant weeds.

The meeting will be held at the SKRECC building in Albany on March 8 at 5:30 pm.

Palmer Amaranth is one of the weeds of concern for row crop producers. This weed was found in Clinton County in 2014 and has since become a major issue for some producers.

UK weed specialist Dr. JD Green will be presenting research based information on controlling weeds in row crops, focusing on taking a proactive approach to preventing herbicide resistant weeds from becoming a problem.

The meeting will begin with a meal sponsored by Beck’s Hybrids. To help prepare for the meal, please call the Clinton County Extension Office if you plan to attend at 606 387-5404.

Eastern Star special meeting

Albany Chapter No. 429 Order of the Eastern Star will have a special call meeting on Friday, March 4. The Worthy Grand Matron Jo Ellen Perkins and the Worthy Grand Patron Paul Mattingly of the Grand Chapter of KY Order of the Eastern Star will be making their inspection visit. A meal will be at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend and support your Albany Chapter.

Board of Health annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Clinton County local board of health will be Monday, February 29 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be in the conference room of the health department. The meeting is open to the public.

Park board scheduled to meet

The Recreation Park Board is scheduled to meet in regular session Thursday, February 25 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park. The meeting is open to the general public.

Football team taking strawberry orders

The Clinton County varsity football team is now taking orders for fresh strawberries. The strawberries will be delivered in March. Prices are $25 for a full flat, which is eight quarts and $15 for a half flat, which is four quarts. Broadleaf weed control demonstration

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is offering a broadleaf weed control demonstration to area producers.

Producers interested in controlling broadleaf weeds in pastures are encouraged to sign-up by calling the Clinton County Extension Office at 606-387-5404. There are only seven spots available on a first come, first served basis. Producers are responsible for providing a tractor, an operator, and water to fill the sprayer. KDA will provide the sprayer and 2,4-D or Crossbow for 10 acres.
