With four separate plots and four sets of characters, there is a large cast and lots of interaction in this play within a play. Unlike the recent production, Play On!, however, most of the actors do not play but one role. The cast includes:
The characters in the first plot who are involved in a tangled love story include Dr. Kenneth Beaty as Theseus, Duke of Athens, who is engaged to Hippolyta played by Kathie Winningham.
Tom Murray, playing Egeus, is Hermia’s father who insists upon his paternal right to choose her husband. Hermia, being played by Emily Decker, is a young woman in love with Lysander, but ordered by her father to marry Demetrius. Te’koa Price/Nicholas Kidd play Lysander, the youth in love with Hermia, while Seth Hart plays Demetrius, the man chosen by Egeus for his daughter.
To add to the mayhem, Helena, Hermia’s friend from childhood, is in love with Demetrius and being played by Montana Daniels.
The second and fourth plots revolve around the planning and a performance for Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding celebration.
The wedding planners include: Philostrate, the master of the revel, played by Missy Davis. He is assisted by Linda Saunders as Peter Quince, (the carpenter) and author and director of the play-within-the-play; Tyler Martin as Nick Bottom (the weaver) and manager of the wedding plans where he performs as Pyramus. (He also becomes the object of Titania’s love); Chandler Winningham, as Francis Flute, (the bellows mender) who unwillingly plays the role of Thisbe in the play-within-the-play; Samantha Harden as Snug, (the joiner) who portrays the lion in the wedding play because he can roar his lines; Maria Pryor as Robin Starveling (the tailor), who portrays the moon in the play-within-the-play; and Brianna Alvarez as Tom Snout, (the tinker) who portrays a wall in the wedding performance.
The third subplot centers around the fairyland in the woods.
Tom Murray plays Oberon as king of the fairies and married to Titania, queen of the fairies, who is played by Caroline Patterson. Taylor Brown, as Robin Goodfellow (Puck), is a hobgoblin in Oberon’s service.
Others in the fairyland woods include Dakota Brown as Fairy, JD Davis as Woodland Sprite, Victoria Pryor as Fairy, and Kenny Beaty as Indian Boy.
More of Titania’s fairies are: Piper Cantrell as Prologue Fairy 1 and Cobweb, Chloe King as Prologue Fairy 2, Claire Beaty as Prologue Fairy 3, Haven Copeland as Peaseblossom, Kyra Pharres as Moth, and Abigale Upchurch as Mustardseed.
