Meeting will focus on herbicide resistant weed control
The Clinton and Cumberland County Extension offices are partnering to hold a grain/silage producer meeting on weed control in row crops with a focus on herbicide resistant weeds.
The meeting will be held at the SKRECC building in Albany on March 8 at 5:30 pm.
Palmer Amaranth is one of the weeds of concern for row crop producers. This weed was found in Clinton County in 2014 and has since become a major issue for some producers.
UK weed specialist Dr. JD Green will be presenting research based information on controlling weeds in row crops, focusing on taking a proactive approach to preventing herbicide resistant weeds from becoming a problem.
The meeting will begin with a meal sponsored by Beck’s Hybrids. To help prepare for the meal, please call the Clinton County Extension Office if you plan to attend at 606 387-5404.
Eastern Star special meeting
Albany Chapter No. 429 Order of the Eastern Star will have a special call meeting on Friday, March 4. The Worthy Grand Matron Jo Ellen Perkins and the Worthy Grand Patron Paul Mattingly of the Grand Chapter of KY Order of the Eastern Star will be making their inspection visit. A meal will be at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend and support your Albany Chapter.

Pampered Chef Kids Cooking Class
A Pampered Chef kids cooking class, with the theme, “Cupcake Walk” will be presented at the Clinton County Public Library on Tuesday, March 22 at 5 p.m. Cost is $20 per child. Contact Alisha at the public library to sign up. Kids will receive a Pampered Chef goody bag and will compete for an additional item by winning the cupcake wars. Class will be limited to 10 participants, so sign up early. Fee is due at time of registration.

Head Start taking applications
Lake Cumberland Head Start is now accepting applications for three and four year old children in the Clinton County area to participate in the 2016-17 school year. Head Start is a child development program that provides comprehensive services to income eligible parents and families with special needs. Qualified staff operates a center-based facility that is developmentally appropriate for children three to five years old. The center provides an environment with numerous learning opportunities and learning experiences that meet the needs of young children. Applications can be picked up at the Head Start Center Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more information contact the Head Start Center at 387-8747.

Clinton County Retired Teachers will meet Tuesday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at Lee’s Famous Recipe. This will be the annual meeting to honor the Grandparent Essay winners from Clinton County.

Portrait fundraising effort for AFD underway
The Albany Fire Department is currently hosting a third-party fundraising effort in the community that will involve a group asking for donations across the city and county. Those making donations of $20 or more, will be eligible to receive a free 8×10 photography.
