Bulldogs receive post season awards, former Lady Dawg finishes season at Asbury College

Above, Clinton County High School senior basketball team member Eli Brown is shown accepting a check that represents the scholarship he was awarded from the 4th Region Officials’ Association. The Association grants a scholarship each year to one male and one female basketball player from the 4th Region. Eli is the son of James and Cindy Brown.

Right, Brett Gibson, a junior member of the Clinton County High School boys’ basketball team, was named to the 4th Region All Tournament team during the awards ceremony last Tuesday night in Diddle Arena.

Gibson, known for his long range shooting, dropped in 19 points against Barren County during the Bulldogs’ opening round loss to Barren County last week, dropping in five baskets from three-point range against the Trojans.. On the season, the 6’0” guard averaged 12 points per game. He is the son of Jeff and Kim Gibson.

Asbury University’s Ansley Stalcup put up this shot during a recent game for the Eagles against Carlow, Pennsylvania in quarterfinal action of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

Stalcup finished the game with three points, hitting one two point basket and a free throw in the Eagles’ 95-65 victory. Stalcup, a former Clinton County Lady Bulldog standout, is a freshman member of the Asbury Eagles and finished the regular season with a 3.11 points per game average.

Stalcup’s best game came against KIAC opponent Cincinnati Christian, when she went four of six from the floor, including one three point basket, and was two of two from the free throw line to finish with 11 points in the Eagles’ 103-50 thumping over the CCU Eagles.

After winning the KIAC tournament with three victories including an 87-82 overtime thriller championship game, Stalcup and her Eagles traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to compete in the NAIA Div. II women’s national championship tournament.

A 32 team tournament, the Asbury Eagles held off the St. Francis Fighting Saints 63-60 in opening round action last Thursday afternoon, to advance to the Sweet 16 round of the tournament, where they faced the Tabor, Kansas Bluejays on Friday.

Stalcub and her Eagles saw the season come to an end in the game against Tabor, as the Eagles gave up an 80-73 overtime loss to the Bluejays.

Stalcup is the daughter of J.R. and Patricia Stalcup.
