My Grandma,
Ruth Stockton, Loves Me
3rd Place (Tie)
Loren Little
My grandma is a sweet, loving person. Every time I go through her door, I see short, curly hair, wrinkles, and a big smile. She always greets me with a “How’s my girl?” and is ready to give me a hug. Grandpa is there too, but, sorry Grandpa, my essay is about Grandma. My Grandma loves me so much, and is always excited to see me. I’m excited to see her, too. I love her very much, and while you’re reading this you’ll see that Grandma is going to be the next Kentucky Grandparent of the Year.
First of all, my Grandma thinks a lot of me, and tells me so when I go to her house. She says when she listens to the church radio channel, she can pick my voice out in choir from all the other voices. She even says I should sing a song by myself. I also know she thinks a lot of me because she’s always telling me to do good in school, go to college, and get a good job. She says that I can do a lot of things if I put my mind to it. I don’t think any grandparent in the world could be more positive about their grandchildren. It makes me feel just a little bit better when she tells me how good I am and what I can do.
There are a lot of good memories I have with Grandma, but the best are when I would go over to Grandma’s after church and spend the rest of the day there. When I was little, I would go to Grandma’s sometimes for lunch after church. I would be very excited! She would make mac and cheese, cooked carrots, tomatoes, and some type of meat, but it wasn’t the food I was excited about. It was getting to spend the rest of the day with Grandma! After my parents left, I would pretend to be the preacher, and Grandma would watch me on the couch. Then I would hug Grandma, and she would sit in her black chair and tell me stories about her life. Sometimes she even brought out a photo album, and would show me her and my mom together. We watched cartoons, too. Grandma likes cartoons, even now! We would sit together and watch Thomas the Train or Curious George. Grandma and I would always do something together, even if it was putting a 50 piece puzzle together. It is always a special occasion for me when I’m at Grandma’s, there in her arms.
My Grandma has lots of good qualities and lots of good things she does. The one that stands out the most to me is caring. My Grandma is caring because first, she likes to give people things. She makes sure she gets a present for each person in the family at Christmas. She also gives us presents on our birthday, but presents aren’t only what she gives. Sometimes she also has a big carton of apple juice waiting for us, and there’s always candy on the counter. Grandma is also caring because, well, she takes care of us kids (me and Evan). Mom expects her to do a good job as a kidsitter. And boy, she does! Every time I’m in another room for more than 15 minutes, Grandma comes and checks on me to make sure everything’s alright. In return, I decorate her house or wash the windows, but she always comes back through with $1 for my hard work.
Now that you’ve read about my Grandma, you know how much she means to me, and how special she is. She will stay in my heart forever and ever. I love her very much. She is caring, loving, positive, and the best Grandma in the world, so I won’t be surprised when she’s the next Kentucky Grandparent of the Year.
