Every single time I see strawberry jelly it reminds me of my great-grandma, Izora Stover, or as I like to call her, Izzy!” Almost every time I see her eating breakfast she has strawberry jelly in her eggs, on her toast, even sometimes on her own clothes! My grandma has grayish-blonde hair, bluish-green eyes, and she is skinny, plus she is super loving! She cares for me every day of the year, and she always tells me that she loves me a bushel and a peck with a hug around the neck. That is why my grandma is and should be the Kentucky Grandparent of the Year!

When I was younger I used to stay with my Grandma Izzy! One time I stayed with her for a whole month straight! When I stayed there me and my grandma would make biscuits, gravy, and sometimes eggs. I mean, every day we would eat that. We would sit at her kitchen table and say a blessing, then eat breakfast! She loves making breakfast for me, and I love making breakfast with her. We called it “Our Special Breakfast.” She also said I might be a cook someday. I will never forget making “Our Special Breakfast” with my Grandma Izzy.

My Izzy is a very special person in my life, and one of those reasons is being encouraging! My grandma encourages me in many different ways. One of those is school. She always tells me to try my very best in school and other educational things. Another way she encourages me is at my sporting events. Grandma Izzy always tells me, “Good luck and play safe!” Also my grandma encourages me when I’m sad or mad. She usually asks me how I am doing or if I had a good day! This lets me know that she loves me and cares for me. That is something you always need, someone to encourage you.

I think my Izzy is one of the most spiritual people on the planet. Izzy’s belief in God is AMAZING! I’ve never seen or heard of anyone as spiritual as her. When my grandma wasn’t able to go to church, she would find a preacher on TV every night. Izzy gives me information about the Bible every day! I think … No, I know that God meant to give Izzy to me and my mom when she was being created. I think Izzy is truly an angel in disguise.

I’m so grateful that I wrote this essay. It has made me realize how much my Izzy means to me. My grandma may not win this essay, but I will still love her the same. I will still cherish all of my memories with her. I’m so glad that I nominated Izzy for Kentucky Grandparent of the Year. If she does win it is not going to make me love her any more than I already do because I already love her with my whole heart…and that’s all that matters.
