The Clinton County Class of 2011 graduated more than a couple of weeks ago, but after the NEWS ran an article of the top three graduates, the final grades caused a change, naming a new senior as this year’s class Historian.
Dillon Crawford, son of Rhonda and Darrell Young and Chris Crawford, was named historian when the final grades were turned in just before graduation.
Crawford said he was excited to get the news and being historian is a goal he has had for a long time.
“It’s a good honor and I’m really proud of how hard I worked to get it,” Crawford said. “Most scholarships are given to the top three and that’s a goal I had for myself.”
Even though Crawford has completed his four years of high school, he said he had a little help along the way.
“Gina Poore, Melissa Tallent and Jim Davis all pushed me to try harder and better myself,” Crawford said.
Crawford said his parents were extremely happy for his accomplishments. He even waited to tell his mother and let her find out when it was announced at graduation.
“They were extremely excited,” Crawford said. “I didn’t tell my mom at all. I just wanted her to find out at graduation. I didn’t even tell her I was in the running for it. The only person I told was my step-dad.”
Other than a stellar student, Crawford also spent four years of his high school career as a member of the Clinton County High School football team.
“It didn’t seem like it when it was going on, but whenever you look back at it, it seems kind of difficult,” Crawford said. “It’s hard to not focus on one thing at a time.”
Crawford said he will miss the days of high school and mostly he will miss his friends.
“It went by very quick … I miss it all the time,” Crawford said. “I will miss seeing my friends more often and being able to talk at any time. Now, it just seems like you have to plan out everything.”
During the summer, Crawford is going to take a break from school and try to earn money for college.
“I thought about it, but most of them would be night classes, so I’m just going to get a job and try to save up for college,” Crawford. “I plan on attending Somerset Community College and then transfer to UK.”
Crawford said he plans on pursuing a degree in pharmacy or radiology.
Starting this new chapter in his life is going to be something of a challenge. Crawford said he is looking forward to the change.
“I’m ready to prove my use,” Crawford said. “I’m a little nervous about it also.
