The Clinton County Tourism Board met two weeks ago for its second official meeting since the board was re-founded.
The ordinance establishing a Tourism Commission was passed earlier by the ClintonCounty Fiscal Court, and last week during it’s meeting, the court established a three percent tax to be collected from lodging establishments in the county that will be collected on most hotel/motel room rentals.Since the Tourism Commission vote to allow the transient fee on lodging was passed, the tourism board had held two meetings and elected officers for the board.
Patrick Padron was elected President, with Jim Soma being elected Vice-President. Penny Jo Stearns was also elected as Treasurer. Other board members include, Brett Gibson, Charlotte Dick, Larry Hatfield and Willard Johnson with Hatfield being the only member not present at the meeting.
It was also established during the meeting on March 8 to set a regular date for monthly meetings. It was decided by the board to hold public meetings the third Tuesday of every month.
The transient fee will be collect from several lodging business in the county, including, Baymont Inn, Royal Inn, Grider Hill Dock, Wolf River Dock, Wisdom Dock, and Branham Motel.
Stearns also said she established a Facebook page for the Tourism Board and it can be accessed at Clinton County Ky Tourism. Stearns has also been in contact with several different website designers and has collected prices on building web pages for the board, but no action on which company to used had been taken.
The meeting was then adjourned after less than an hour in session.
The group met Tuesday, March 22 at the Baymont Inn and will be on a regular monthly schedule beginning in April with the third Tuesday of each month. All meetings are open to the public.
