On Saturday, April 16, volunteers are invited to pick up litter along lake roads during the sixth annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup.
Hundreds of volunteers are expected and they will receive a free lunch and be entered into a drawing for prizes. Free T-shirts will be given away, while supplies last.
“No Place Like Home” is the Spring Cleanup theme this year, and that’s certainly true for the communities around Dale Hollow Lake,” said PRIDE’s Tammie Wilson. ‘This area is beautiful, and the lake is a special attraction.”
“We all know that our homes need a spring cleanup each year, and it’s more fun when we work together,” she said. “Please bring your family and friends to volunteer on April 16.”
“The Dale Hollow Cleanup has become one of the most successful PRIDE events in the region, and I want to thank the local sponsors for this leadership,” Wilson added. “They are the Cumberland County Fiscal Court, Clinton County Fiscal Court, Dale Hollow State Resort Park, Hendricks Creek Resort and Sulphur Creek Resort.”
On April 16, volunteer registration will begin at 9 a.m. CT at these locations: Hendricks Creek Dock, Sulphur Creek Dock and Dale Hollow State Resort Park picnic areas.
At registration, volunteers will receive trash bags, gloves and safety vests. They will be directed to an area to clean. Safe, age-appropriate cleanup areas will be available for groups with children, such as schools and churches.
At noon, volunteers will gather for a free cook-out at the picnic area at Dale Hollow State Resort Park. The prize drawing will be held during the cook-out.
Clinton County PRIDE Coordinator Rick Stearns said the local registration areas starting at 9 a.m. that day would be at Wisdom Dock and Wolf River Dock.
There will be three target roads in Clinton County for the lake road cleanup, including:
* Wisdom Dock–Hwy. 553.
* Wolf River Dock Road–Hwy. 738.
* Foothills Academy–start at Hwy. 1590/90 down Hwy. 1351, and clean Hwy. 1351 for six miles. (Confirmed are 12-15 students and four adults for this area.)
Stearns noted there would be safety measures, including signs and volunteer emergency service personnel in the cleanup areas to alert motorists and keep the volunteers safe while cleaning up the roadways.
The Solid Waste Coordinator also noted he was working on getting a lot of volunteer groups and organizations, including school and church groups, to help spread the word about not only the Dale Hollow Road Cleanup, but the overall April PRIDE Cleanup month program that is ongoing.
There will also be a lot of great door prizes during the giveaway after the cleanup, such as pontoon rentals, bowling passes and possibly UK football tickets.
The Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup is part of thee PRIDE Spring Cleanup campaign across 32 counties in southern and eastern Kentucky.
