Young wannabe footballers take notice

Clinton County’s football program, although now over a decade or so old since it’s resurgence, is still very much in the rebuilding stages and one of the most important phases in that process is the formation of the feeder program.

With that in mind, young football players who aspire to someday wear the blue and white for the Bulldogs should get in line now to take part in this summer’s first annual Youth Football Camp.

A complete application is published elsewhere this week in the Clinton County News.

The camp is designed for future players who will be entering grades 1-6 this fall and it will be a one-day camp held on Saturday, June 11. Camp hours will be 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the high school.

More details are available on the camp application, but all aspects of offense and defense will be covered.

The early camp registration fee is only $30, and doing so by this Friday, campers will also be guaranteed a camp t-shirt. Later registrations will be $50 up to the day of camp, and no t-shirt guarantee can be made for late registrants.

One final note – this Saturday only, there will be a sign-up table for camp registrations at the Save-A-Lot grocery on Hwy. 1590 in West Albany. I’m told that although Saturday will be a day after the above mentioned early registration date – coming out this Saturday and signing up will also guarantee a t-shirt and the early $30 fee.

Derby considerations – it’s time

Kentucky’s most famous two minutes of fame is just over a week away, and although the field hasn’t been set yet, I’ve already picked a horse that will see some activity in my wagerings come next Saturday, May 7 and the 142 Run for the Roses.

Of course the horse making the most noise in the early look at possible entrants this year is Nyquist, with Gun Runner beginning to be talked about more and more as Derby Day progresses.

The horse that has caught my eye this week – when considering horses with the most likeable name that will get at least a $2 bet from my pocket is, Suddenbreakingnews.

Gotta love that name in this business.
