Tennis teams wrap up regular season

The Clinton County High School tennis teams wrapped up their regular season last week with a couple of home matches to prepare for the regional tournament.

Tuesday, both teams hosted Monroe County for the double header with the girls’ team picking up two wins for the match.

In singles play, it was Makenzie Kearney falling 1-8, as well as Mary Willen Cross with a 3-8 loss. Haley Story fell 4-8 in her match as well. The only win in singles play came with Taylor Burchett as she defeated her opponent, 6-0.

In doubles play, the team of Cross and Vivian Zheng lost 0-8 and the team of Kearney and Story won 7-5.

In boys’ competition, Zach McFall won 8-3, as did Kyle Choate with an 8-2 score. David Gray fell 3-6 in his match. In doubles play, the team of Jackson Harlan and Matt Wells lost 4-8, as did the team of Alex Morrison and Frank Zheng, 5-8. The team of Matthew Hunter and Jared Grant won their doubles match 8-1.

On Thursday, both teams traveled to Cumberland County to take on the Panthers. McFall, Choate, Wells, and Morrison all picked up wins in singles competition. In doubles play, the team of Hunter/Harlan won 8-2, but the team of Grant/Zheng lost 2-8. The boys’ team finished its season with a record of 12-1.

The girls’ also played Cumberland County with Kearney, Cross and Burchett picking up losses, and Story grabbing a 6-3 win.

In doubles play, Kearney/Story and Cross/Burchett lost their matches 3-8.

Mary Willen Cross returned a serve Tuesday in her match against a Monroe County player. She lost her match, 3-8.

Zach McFall sent a serve over the net during Clinton County’s home match against Monroe County on Tuesday.

Kyle Choate served against his Monroe County opponent Tuesday. He won his match, 8-2.
