CCHS to graduate 101 in 99th Friday

Clinton County High School will say goodbye to some 101 senior class members this weekend, as the ninety-ninth CCHS Commencement Program will take place beginning at 7 p.m. at the Clinton County High School gymnasium.

The Commencement will begin with the processional by the CCHS Band, followed by the presentation of colors by the JROTC Senior Color Guard and invocation given by Phillip Staley. A musical selection, “7 Years” will then be performed by Kaylee Burchett, Cori Anne Langford and Cody Starns.

Katie Beth Williams will deliver the Second Academic Award address, which will be followed by another musical selection, “Bohemian Rhapsody” performed by senior band members.

Jordan Grant will deliver the Third Academic Honor address, followed by another musical selection, “Climb” by Hannah Cummings.

The First Academic Honor Address will be given by Zackary Garmon, followed by presentation of awards by Stacey Evans, CCHS Principal. Following the awards presentation, a slideshow “Our Story” will be presented by the CCHS Class of 2016.

Following the tassel ceremony by class officers, the Commencement Program will come to an end with the benediction given by Bethany Claborn and the recessional by the CCHS band.

Following are some notes about the Clinton County High School Class of 2016:

* Class Motto: “We’ll keep one foot in the past, as we take our next step into the future.” Anonymous

* Class Flower: White Rose; Class Song: “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynrd; Class Colors: Blue, Black and Silver.

* Class officers: President, Mildred Dominguez; Vice President, Kierra Mason; Secretary, Carrie McClellan; Treasurer, Hayli Pillar. Student council members are Mildred Dominguez, Alison Mason, Chandra Tallent, Katie Beth Williams, and Caleb York.

Mr. and Mrs. Senior Class is Erika Rodriguez and John Staley and 2016 class sponsors are Sarah Aaron, Sgt. John Thomure, Melissa Tallent and James Walker.

This year’s commencement ushers will be: Makayla Brown, Kaitlin Cross, Brett Gibson, Zach McFall, Macy Campbell, Keilee Dalton, Noah Gregory, Jamison Summers, Kyle Choate, Keisha Garrett, Cassidy Key and Frank Zheng.

Cords, Sashes and Tassels:

* The gold tassels signify seniors who are graduating Summa Cum Laude (3.8 GPA or greater).

* The silver tassels signify seniors who are graduating Magna Cum Laude (3.5 or greater by less than 3.8).

* The black tassels signify seniors who are graduating Cum Laude (3.0 or greater but less than 3.5).

The gold sashes and black cords signify seniors who qualify in scholarship, character, and leadership for membership in the National Beta Club.

The gold sashes and black and gold cords signify Career and Technical Education seniors who qualify in student excellence and leadership for membership in the National Technical Honor Society.

The Red, White, and Blue cords signify seniors who have completed course work that exceeds the standard requirements and enables them to receive a Comprehensive Diploma which surpasses the standards set forth in the pre-college curriculum.

Faculty’s Academic Hood: The velvet/velveteen trim represents a specific degree/discipline. The satin chevron represents the college/university conferring the degree. The lining represents the college/university conferring the degree and the black shell is the traditional color determined by the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Regalia.

Scholarships were awarded students from eight businesses, eight colleges/universities, as well as six memorial scholarships and six individual and/or organizations.
