Donald I. Dyer, 84, Celina, Tennessee and formerly of Albany, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Celina Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, son of the late Ira Boyles and Edna (Stockton) Dyer and was also preceded in death by his wife, Peggy (Simpson) Dyer. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.
Dyer was a manager of a funeral home in Florida for 10 years and owned and operated Dyer Funeral Home in Albany for 20 years, at which time he built the first nursing home in Albany, the first skating rink in Albany, and established Albany Memorial Gardens. He was also an airplane pilot.
He is survived by two sons, Ira B. Dyer, II, Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Donald I. “Duke” Dyer, II, Celina, Tennessee; two daughters, Deborah Sue “Debbie” Beaty, Wartburg, Tennessee; Donna Jean Bullock, St. Petersburg, Florida; three sisters, Louise Craft, Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Roberta Smith, Deland, Florida; Remona Scott, Albany; also nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday evening, June 6 at Hall Funeral Home in Celina. He chose cremation, which followed the service.
