Bus Stop Cafe is back on the roads, making sure children are well fed

The annual Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the Clinton County Board of Education with U.S. Department of Agriculture funding, is once again underway in Albany and Clinton County to help assure that children are fed nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

What has been referred to as the summer feeding program has been ongoing for several years and in most recent years, the addition of the “Bus Stop Cafe” has become popular, giving more people the chance to participate and receive two meals per day, breakfast and lunch.

The program, which started for the summer this past Monday, provides meals free of charge to all children ages one through 18 and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

Meals are being provided at the location locations:

* Albany Elementary School through July 1, Monday-Friday with breakfast from 7:45 to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

* Clinton County High School through June 30, Monday-Thursday with breakfast from 7:45 to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

* Clinton County Public Library through July 28, Monday-Wednesday and on Friday, lunch only from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

* Clinton County Care and Rehab Center through July 28 with lunch only, Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

The Mobile Bus Stop Cafe, site name Horse Shoe Bend MR will continue through July 28 and bus stops will be at the following locations and times:

* Horse Shoe Bend with breakfast between 8 and 8:20 a.m. and lunch between 10:45 and 11:05 a.m.

* Reeves Trailer Park with breakfast from 8:25 to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 to 11:30 a.m.

* Albany Manor Apartments with breakfast between 8:50 to 9:10 a.m. and lunch from 11:40 a.m. to 12 noon.

* McWhorter’s Trailer Park with breakfast from 9:20 to 9:40 a.m. and lunch from 12:10 to 12:30 p.m.

* Albany Center Apartments with breakfast from 9:50 to 10:10 a.m. and lunch from 12:40 to 1 p.m.

The Clinton County Board of Education encourages all residents with children to participate in this free and beneficial program throughout the summer months.
