The home of Krist Neal and Tracy Shelton’s was a total loss after flames moved through the structure Monday morning. The home was located on U.S. 127 in South Albany, across the road from Gibson Motors.

Although no one was home at the time of the fire, the family pet, a small house dog, perished in the fire and the family lost all of their belongings. Albany Fire Chief Robert Roeper told the Clinton County News that the fire appeared to have started in an area near the rear of the home where an enclosed porch and kitchen were located, and was likely related to an electrical issue the family members said they had been experiencing recently.

Roeper also noted that due to the extreme heat inside the structure, coupled with the extreme heat and humidity outside when the fire was being fought by the Albany Fire Department, several members of the department had to be checked out and cleared by the Clinton County Emergency Medical Services at the scene, but all of the firefighters were cleared by EMS personnel without additional treatment being needed.

The fire chief also expressed his gratitude to several people who assisted fire department personnel by bringing bottled water to the scene to help keep the firefighters hydrated.

It was a busy short stretch of time for the local fire department Monday, as crews were on the scene of two calls at the same time, after a second call came in while the above fire was being battled, just off of Hwy. 553 on the Holy Temple Road. Just a few minutes after that call, firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fire north of Albany on Ky. 1590 near Wilson Airport Subdivision Road.
