America is ready to celebrate its 240th birthday next Monday, celebrating its freedoms and guarantee of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” And once again, the now annual 4th of July Celebration, with fireworks and fun, will take place at Mountain View Park in Albany.

The Recreation Park Board, which along with the Healthy Hometown Coalition and several others, is once again hosting the event which will run approximately six and-a-half hours, culminating with the fireworks show promptly at 9 p.m.

The event schedule again features something for just about everyone to enjoy, with things getting underway at 3 p.m. Monday, July 4.

The car show will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., with trophies being awarded after the showing. Entry fee is $10 and the first 50 vehicles will receive dash plates. For more information on the car show, contact Jason Warinner at 606-306-1197.

Car show awards will be given in the following categories: Best Chevy; Best Ford; Best Mopar; Best Modified Custom; People’s Choice; Rattiest Rat; Best Paint; and Most Original. There will be Best of Show for car, truck, motorcycle, and tractor.

Also starting at 3 p.m. and going up through 8:30 p.m. will be inflatables for the kids, which will include a rock wall and water slide. Armbands can be purchased for $5 giving unlimited use of the inflatables from start to finish.

There will also be live music starting at 6 p.m., featuring Borderline. Then at 8 p.m., the Clinton County Alumni Band will take the stage for another half-hour of entertainment.

Something brand new this year, giving spectators and attendees the chance to show their patriotism, will be the Patriot Walk at 8:30 p.m. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., people can get a ‘free’ red, white and blue glow necklace, then at 8;30 p.m., join the CCHS JROTC and honored veterans to light up the track with the glow necklaces to show your patriotism. This new event is being sponsored by the Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition.

The afternoon and evening will culminate with the singing of the National Anthem by Kelly Latham, immediately preceding the fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Spectators are welcome to park at either Mt. View Park or the Clinton Co. Middle School parking lot.

All proceeds from events will go toward improvements at Mountain View Park.
