A long-time Albany and Clinton County businessman and one of the most recognizable figures from Clinton County High School athletics died unexpectedly Friday afternoon.

Robbie Davis, 53, was boating on Dale Hollow Lake with his wife, Amy and two sons, Joe and John, when he became ill, likely suffering a heart-attack.

After being transported to Wolf River Marina in the family boat, Davis was transported to The Medical Center Albany, where he died.

Davis had been involved in a host of business endeavors in Albany and Clinton County, most notably a family operated business based in north Albany, Davis Realty and Auction as well as Davis Insurance.

A real estate broker, Davis was also a licensed auctioneer and worked in that capacity for many years at auction sales his company held.

He began his business career working as an automobile salesman for area dealerships, and later was a manager for one of the area’s largest dealerships at the time, Riverfront Chevrolet.

Davis was also involved with several civic organizations through the years, including the Albany – Clinton County Chamber of Commerce.

In recent years he had become heavily involved in the distribution of a health supplement business and had moved his family to central Kentucky and was currently residing in the Nicholasville area.

He was best known for this athletic affiliations in Clinton County, especially during his high school years at Clinton County High School.

A stand-out athlete, he played point-guard for the Bulldogs basketball team during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Davis was a 1982 graduate of Clinton County High School, and during his senior year, he was the floor general on what was one of the most heralded teams to ever represent the school.

That team finished the year with a still-unmatched 28-2 overall record, picking up a 16th District Championship in a down to the wire 57-56 win over Cumberland County.

That game was played in what was likely the highest attended basketball game ever held at Clinton County High School, with an estimated 4,000 fans in attendance in what could only be described as a standing room only crowd.

That Bulldog team advanced to the semi-final round of the 4th Region tournament where they had their Sweet 16 hopes stopped by Warren Central.

The team’s season ended with a 28-2 season record and at one point were one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the state, having earned a 19-0 record before suffering it’s first loss that year.

After the season had ended, Davis signed to play basketball with Georgetown College.

Davis also played baseball for Clinton County High School, and in later years, coached AAU team from Albany and Clinton County, as well as grade school and middle school teams.
