There are still several weeks of summer left on the calendar, but around 1,700 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, the summer season will come to and end in just a few days, with the first day for students to report to class being Monday, August 8.
Although the always tentative calendar for the 2016-17 school year can be found in the Code of Pupil Conduct, for those who may not take the time to go over it at home, the following is an overview of the calendar from start to finish:
* The official opening day for staff only is Friday, August 5.
* First day for students to report to class is Monday, August 8 (a full day of school.)
* Monday, September 5–Labor Day, no school.
* Monday through Friday, October 10-14–Fall Break, no school.
* Monday, October 17–Work day for staff only, no school for students.
* Tuesday, November 8–Election Day, no school.
* Wednesday through Friday, November 23-25–Thanksgiving Holiday, no school.
* Monday through Friday, December 19-30–Christmas Holiday, no school.
* Monday, January 2–New Year’s Day Holiday, no school.
* Tuesday, January 3–Work day, staff only, no school. (Students will return to class after Christmas break on Wednesday, January 4.)
* Monday, January 16–Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, no school.
* Monday, February 20–President’s Day, no school.
* Monday through Friday, April 3-7–Spring Break, no school.
* Last day for students, May 17.
* Closing day, staff only, May 18.
Make-up days, if needed, is scheduled for May 19 through June 6, with the exception being Monday, May 19 for the Memorial Day holiday.
The school district has also related the 2016-17 start and end times for each school in the district, as follows:
* Clinton County Middle School: start 7:50 a.m., end 2:50 p.m.
* Clinton County High School: start 8 a.m., end 3 p.m.
* Albany Elementary and Early Childhood Center: start 8:10 a.m., end 3:10 p.m.
There will be 172 instructional school days, 420 minutes per day, including 385 instructional minutes and 35 non-instructional.
The school system is once again using non-traditional or cyber” school days to help make up for days missed throughout the year. As always, the calendar is the reflection of a perfect scenario in which no school days would be missed and is subject to change and revision throughout the school year.
