Lady Golf Dawgs pick up season opening win

Our Lady Golf Dawgs got the season off on a winning foot last week when they picked up a win in the opening match against York Institute.

Playing at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, the Big Blue ladies finished the round with a total score of 192, besting York’s total team score of 289.

Individually last Tuesday, our Lady Dawgs were led by senior Macy Campbell’s round of 40, followed by Samantha Stinson’s 46, Landry Honeycutt’s 52 and Victoria Honeycutt’s 54.

The Lady Dawgs will face York again this Thursday in a match scheduled to be played at 76 Falls Country Club.

A postponed match against Monroe County was rescheduled for this past Tuesday – details next week.

Also next week, our Lady Dawgs will compete in the All “A” Regional Tournament on Monday at Tompkinsville’s Hidden Hills Country Club.

Golf Dawgs get off to a slow start, but does it in honorable fashion

Going up against Adair County, Cumberland County and York Institute at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park last Tuesday, our Golf Dawgs fell just short of coming out on top, but to the credit of one Golf Dawg, the loss came in true “game of gentlemen” golf fashion.

York earned the overall win in the match, with a team total 168, followed by Adair County with a 170. Cumberland County placed fourth with a 179.

Our Golf Dawgs ended with a third place score of 171, which included a couple of penalty strokes that Golf Dawg Chase Claborn had called on himself during the round.

Individually, Clinton County’s Jamison Derryberry led the Golf Dawgs with a 39, Kyle Choate followed closely with a 40 while Claborn ended up with a 45 and Reed Sloan finished with a 47.

Like the girls, the Golf Dawgs were slated to compete in a makeup game this past Tuesday, and will play York Institute this Thursday at 76 Falls Country Club. Then, it’s on to Tompkinsville on Monday for the All ‘A’ Regional Tournament.

Golf team benefit tournament is August 13

A final reminder that local golfers can help our Lady Golf Dawgs and Golf Dawgs by playing in the 4th Annual Mike Anders Fore The Kids Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be played Saturday, August 13, at 76 Falls Country Club and will be a blind draw A-B-C-D four-person scramble.

A host of tournament prizes for various contests will be held, and based on a full field, the first place team could win $2,000.

A hole-in-one could win you a Sea-Doo from Denney Marine.

The event gets underway with a 9:00 a.m. check-in followed by a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. Entry Fee is $50 per player.

To pre-register or learn additional information, contact Greg Claborn at 606-688-2673 or Fredrick Honeycutt at 606-688-1965.

Football action a week away.

Our schedule is to release the Fall Sports Preview with next week’s issue, August 19, which will be just in time for the first gridiron game of the season when the Bulldogs travel across the Kentucky/Tennessee state line to take on the Bobcats of Pickett County.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and unlike most road trips the Dawgs will take this season, the game in Byrdstown is an easy location to find. Head toward the high school and stop at the bottom of the hill.

Clinton County will appear in its first home game the following week, August 26, hosting Trimble County.
