Dog days of summer
The July 4 holiday is behind us now, and it was one of the busiest one’s I’ve seen for awhile – at least on the lakes.
For the local economy, that’s a good sign.
Mid-day at Wisdom Dock on Monday, July 4, was one of the busiest exchanges of customers coming and going that I’ve seen in awhile. Likewise, I visited Wolf River Marina, also on Dale Hollow during the weekend, and saw a full campground and packed parking lot.
Didn’t go across the way to Lake Cumberland, but indications are that Grider Hill, Clinton County’s only commercial marina on that lake, had a big weekend as well.
The stressed economy in this area hasn’t recovered completely by any means, but hopefully the numbers of tourism dollars being spent this past holiday weekend is an indicator that things are at least in “turnaround” mode.
Volley Dawgs were hard at work
Hats off to everyone who made Monday night’s fireworks show a tremendous success, and a special tip of the hat to the Clinton County volleyball team – the Volley Dawgs.
They were the group who earned the concessions bid for Monday night’s event, and it’s customary to see the parents working to earn extra cash for a team when fundraisers are held, but from watching the food cooking and serving that was going on from the main food booth, it was soon pretty clear that no one was working any harder than the players themselves.
It’s always good to see the youngsters working toward earning their goals.
