Bulldogs off to 2-0 start, need a good night Friday

Our Bulldogs are off to a fast start to this 2016 gridiron season, picking up the second win this past Friday night under the lights at Bulldog Field when they delivered an old fashioned beat-down to the Raiders of Trimble County, 43-8.

Facing back to back Raiders, Coach Jamie Miller and troops will play host this Friday night to McCreary Central from just across the mountains.

This group of Raiders will be bringing a 1-1 record to Bulldog Field and will be trying to avenge a narrow loss they suffered this past Friday night at the hands of Lynn Camp, 38-36.

Central has a habit of putting a lot of points on the board anyway, picking up the season opening win over Jenkins in a 55-8 route over the Cavaliers.

The Dawgs will have to be on their top game this Friday night and hopefully the stands will be full of blue clad fans for the 7:00 p.m. tip.

Weather predictions call for a great night of high school football, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures at game time in the low to mid 70s with a much lower level of humidity than we’ve been encountering for the past several weeks. Bring a jacket, lows could hit the low 60s by the final horn.

Bulldogs to help Troop Dreams in game against Caverna

Trish Miller (Mrs. Coach) sent word this week that the Bulldogs will be involved in a special effort when they take the field on September 16 for the game against Caverna.

Benefiting the Troop Dreams Military Appreciation effort that night, they will be accepting donations at the gate for the program as well as selling mini American flags and Troop Dreams rally towels.

The effort will be used to fund the wish of a pre-approved military family in Kentucky or Tennessee in special ways.

More information can be found elsewhere in this week’s Clinton County News.

Thinking about basketball – on the All ‘A’ level

It might be hard to think about high school basketball when the temperatures outside are in the 90s – or not, this is Kentucky after all – but coaches involved in the roundball All ‘A’ competition this winter have already had their meeting and tournament draw for the regional tournament.

Both our Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will head to Russellville for the first round of competition on Monday, January 16, taking on the Panthers and Lady Panthers on those first round games, with the winners of those first round games then playing Monroe County in Tompkinsville Wednesday, January 18.

Pre-season coaches rankings for our 4th Region were also released following last week’s meeting. With six teams competing in each division, our Lady Dawgs were ranked third behind Monroe County then Metcalfe County, with Todd County Central, Russellville and Cumberland County rounding out the second half of teams, in that order. The coaches didn’t pick any Lady Bulldogs in the list of top six players across the region.

In boys’ play, Clinton County was ranked second, just behind Russellville, with Monroe, Cumberland, Todd and Metcalfe, in that order, rounding out the rest of the field.

Fans will notice the blind draw certainly stacked the top half in boys’ play, with the top two teams battling right off the bat (Russellville and Clinton) to earn a game against the third rated team (Monroe).

As for individual player rankings, three of our Bulldogs were included in the top six list, including Jamison Summers, Brett Gibson, and Colin Langford. No other team had more than one player listed in the top six rating.
