Bulldogs remain perfect in season with 43-8 win over Trimble

Josh Shelton forced a fumble Friday night against Trimble County which he recovered. For the game, Clinton County recovered four fumbles that eventually led to its 43-8 victory Friday night. The Bulldogs will be back in action again this Friday night at Bulldog Field to host McCreary County at 7 p.m. Clinton County impoves to 2-0 on the year.

Clinton County was at home Friday night to take on Trimble County for the first outing among local fans at Bulldog Field.

The Bulldogs kept its composure during the first half and led Trimble County 36-0 at the break.

During the second half, Clinton County continued to show its dominates and fans got to see more players come off the bench for some needed varsity action.

After the final buzzer sounded in the fourth quarter, Clinton County remained perfect in season play, finishing with the 43-8 win.

During the game, six touchdowns were scored by the Dawgs, including two by Cory Arms, and one each by Josh Shelton, Noah Pruitt, Christian Carpenter and Devon Redman.

Dylan Groce kicked a field goal during the game and Pruitt ran the ball in three times on two-point conversions.

The Dawgs had four fumble recoveries during the game with Redman picking up two, Carson Guthrie with one and Shelton with one.

Richard Stephens led the team with six tackles, while Shelton had 12 carries for 79 yards rushing.

Arms completed six carries for 63 yards and Pruitt had 11 carries for 69 yards.

“We have some serious mistakes we have to correct,” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “Fortunately it wasn’t a barn burning game. For the most part we played pretty well.”

Clinton County tried relying on Pruitt for offense with several passing plays. Miller said they tried to utalize the passing game, but several mistakes were made during the game.

“We had some dropped passes and it really didn’t work out the way we had hoped,” Miller said. “I think we had a couple oppertunities for touchdowns with the passing game that we didn’t convert on. I want to throw the ball to loosen up the running game. If they are going to give us the passing game then we are going to take it.”

Clinton County will be back in action this Friday night at Bulldog Field as the Dawgs host McCreary County.

“McCreary County is a much improved team both offensively and defensively,” Miller said. “We have to make sure we are clicking on all cylinders going into this game. Last year we won by five points. Having said they are much improved, well so are we. It’s going to be a battle.”

Friday night’s game will kick off at 7 p.m.
