The Clinton County Football team ran through a banner to show their support for cancer awareness Friday night before the game against Trimble County. For the past several years, during one home game of each sport, the local Relay For Life uses the event to promote cancer awareness. Teams in Clinton County usually wear purple or pink somewhere on their uniforms or, like the CCHS Cheerleaders, have special uniforms to wear during those special events.

Relay for Life Community Manager Amanda Messer said having cancer awareness night during a sporting event is a way to “touch” more people throughout the year.

“When high school sporting programs partner up with the American Cancer Society, it helps to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living year round. We are able to touch more people and raise funds for our overall mission, all while honoring our local cancer survivors. Since 1993, coaches and their teams have helped raise more $100 million for the American Cancer Society. Clinton County has stepped up to the plate by bringing awareness not only during the football season, but at all local high school sporting events and several middle school sporting events. Every little bit helps,” Messer said.

The Relay for Life raised almost $300 during Friday night’s game. Below, several cancer survivors were on hand and were recognized during halftime of Clinton County’s game against Trimble County.
