Highways and waterways were especially full this past weekend for the traditional close of another tourism season on Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake – the long Labor Day holiday.

Although both lakes have additional big draw events that will bring more tourists numbers to the area – the Poker Run on Lake Cumberland this coming weekend and the Dale Hollow Bass Classic (September 26), the final of the “big three” summer holidays traditionally marks the end of heavy traffic in the area that is linked to tourism visits.

One of the busier Labor Day weekends in recent years, marina parking lots were full and traffic on both lakes was considerably heavy.

On Dale Hollow Lake, boaters convened in several gathering spots Saturday and Sunday, as was the case in the top photo where boaters from several states came together at Shear Pin Pass near the Clinton County and Pickett County boundary, to enjoy an afternoon of sun and fun. While some chose to take the plunge from the nearby cliffs (see far left area of the photo), others chose to simply float in the water or take in the sun from inside their boats.

At right, activity Sunday at Clinton County’s Wisdom Marina was busy as boaters kept the ramp as well as the ramp approach full while pulling boats from Dale Hollow Lake after the full weekend.
