Guffey dies after being shot, Slone charged with murder

James Guffey, 53, of Albany, and son of Albany Police Chief Ernest Guffey, was shot and killed Monday afternoon at a residence on Wolf River Dock Road. The residence is inside the Albany City limits, just south of the intersection with Foothills Avenue.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Guffey was shot by Travis S. Slone, 27, of Albany, shortly after 2 p.m., following at altercation between the two men at the residence.

When Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Warinner arrived on scene, Slone was detained immediately, but it wasn’t until around 6:27 p.m. when official charges of murder were placed against Slone.

According to a press release issued by the Kentucky State Police, an altercation occurred at the residence that led to Guffey being shot.

Slone was arrested and lodged in the Clinton County Jail.

Despite performing CPR at the scene and in route to The Medical Center in Albany by Clinton County EMS, Guffey was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Albany Police Department, and the Kentucky State Police were on hand at the scene. The investigation is ongoing by the KSP with Detective Kenny Brown investigating.

Clinton County Emergency Medical Technicians performed CPR on James Guffey near the residence where he was shot during an altercation at a residence on Wolf River Dock Road. Also on the scene when the above photo was taken were officers with the Kentucky State Police, Albany Police Department and Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. Guffey was the son of Albany Police Chief Ernest Guffey.
