The Clinton County Bulldogs fell Friday night at the hands of Metcalfe County in a game that was much closer than the final score depicted, 54-20.

Head Coach Jamie Miller said there were a couple of calls that could have changed the game.

“The calls were legit, but I’ve always said football is a game of momentum and once we had a couple of those calls the momentum shifted,” Miller said. “We started off playing really well. We opened up taking the ball down the field and scored.”

Miller said there was a 30 yard run as well as a 20 yard carry that was brought back due to penalties

“We end up shooting ourselves in the foot,” Miller said. “With about a minute to go in the second quarter, they are fourth and 20 and they hit us on a long touchdown pass.”

At the half, Clinton County went into the locker room down 20-8. Most of the second half was still pretty tight up until the fourth quarter as Metcalfe County started to pull away in the final minutes.

“The game was not nearly as lopsided as what the score made it look,” Miller said. “We had our opportunities, but we didn’t capitalize on those opportunities we had.”

Miller said that was a big game for the Bulldogs and it would have been a big win for the program.

C.J. Smith recorded 112 yards receiving with two touchdowns. Quarterback Noah Pruitt threw for 109 yards with one touchdown pass.

Clinton County will be on the road for the next game as the Bulldogs travel to Lynn Camp Friday night.

Friday night’s game will kick off at 7 p.m.
