Bulldogs close out home games with unique Thursday appearance

Our Bulldogs suffered another close loss Friday night, this one coming at the hands of the Bulldogs of Red Boiling Springs, just a short distance across the Tennessee border.

The 34-28 single touchdown loss brought Clinton County’s record on the season to the 3-5 mark.

With just two games remaining on the schedule this season, Coach Jamie Miller and company face having to “win out” in order to finish with a .500 year and they have a great chance to get an important win this week when they play host to the Cavaliers of Jenkins.

This week’s game at Bulldog Field is a rare Thursday night contest that is likely scheduled in this manner in relation to this week’s Foothills Festival that includes a Friday night lineup of events around town.

The Thursday night game will also give some fans who are otherwise unable to attend traditional Friday night contests due to other obligations.

It should be a great night of football action Thursday night, with weather forecasts calling for cool but mild and dry weather conditions at game time. The 7:00 p.m. kickoff calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper to mid 50s.

The Cavaliers will bring a 1-7 record to Bulldog Field, but they aren’t to be overlooked by any means, having picked up the first win of the season this past Friday night in a 28-20 overtime win against South Floyd.

In addition to the unique Thursday night game for local fans, this year’s seniors will be recognized during a pre-game Senior Night festivity. Also, at halftime of Thursday’s game a special ceremony will recognize the players, coaches and cheerleaders involved in this year’s football youth league program.

Do Dawgs!

Get out early and cheer on the Runnin’ Dawgs

This week’s annual Foothills Festival schedule offers something for everyone in the Friday and Saturday lineup, including one event that falls under the athletic category as well as under the “long standing tradition” column.

Saturday morning’s Foothills 5K Run will see runners from far and wide on the starting line early Saturday morning, making their way through Albany and toward the finish line at Dyer Drug Company on the courthouse square.

Among those runners will be a host of young runners decked out in Bulldog Blue. Although it’s not a scheduled meet for our Clinton County High School Runnin’ Dawgs Cross Country team, it has long been a tradition that the team members participate.

More often than not, when post-race awards are handed out, there will be several Runnin’ Dawgs collecting trophies.

It also gives local sports enthusiasts a chance – sometimes the only chance – to get out and show support for this high school team as although the program continues to be successful, we are unable yet to host any events. Most of the fan base behind our Runnin’ Dawgs at the away meets are family.

Take advantage of this chance to show support to a team of young athletes that wear our blue and white by coming to the 5K race route early Saturday morning and cheering the runners on as they pass by.

Registration at Mountain View Park is at 7:00 a.m. and the run gets started at 8:00 a.m. Expect runners to begin crossing the finish line before the 8:20 mark.

Have a great Foothills Festival and as always . . .

“Come See It Our Way!”
