Albany City Council held its regular monthly meeting last Tuesday evening with four of six members on hand. Council members Steve Lawson and Tonya Thrasher were absent.

The meeting was brief with limited items of business on the agenda.

The council dealt with the upcoming Halloween season by setting “trick-or-treat” hours in the Albany City Limits from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 31.

They also announced that once again, there will be trick-or-treating on the downtown square in Albany, with the usual street, west of the courthouse, being roped off.

The annual trick-or-treating on the square allows residents or groups to give out candy to youngsters in a central location, as well as giving parents the added option of trick-or-treating in one safe location on Halloween night.

Anyone interested in setting up a spot to pass out treats on the square Halloween night should contact Melissa at city hall or call 387-6011.

The joint motion to set trick-or-treat hours and again take part in the event on the square was made by councilman Brad Thrasher and passed by unanimous vote.

Kenneth Delk, with the Albany Water Department, said there was no current update on the status of getting a water tank installed in the Duvall Valley area of the county to help alleviate pressure problems, as the city is still awaiting funding for the proposed 5,000 gallon tank that will eventually be installed in the area.

In other business, the council:

* Voted to re-bid a 1998 Ford F-150 truck which had been sold via sealed bid. Apparently the high bidder rejected the vehicle and no other bidder submitted a bid of $300 or more, which was the minimum amount set. Bids on the vehicle will be opened at the council’s next meeting.

* Voted to close the usual streets in downtown Albany during this weekend’s Foothills Festival.

* Discussed putting up a street light near the daycare center on Old Monticello Road and Guffey Street and street striping to be done in the Allen and Nolan Street areas.

The next regular meeting of Albany City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1 at 5 p.m. at city hall and is open to the public.
