Dawgs end season on a high note

Congratulations are certainly in order for our Clinton County Bulldogs, along with Coach Jamie Miller and staff, on ending this 2016 gridiron campaign on another high note.

Clinton County captured a hard-fought win Friday night at Jackson County High School, taking an 18-8 victory from the Generals.

The win ends Clinton County’s season with a .500 mark at 5-5, making it the second consecutive year the Bulldogs have closed out a season at 5-5.

I covered two of the five home games this season, and although my own attendance saw 1-1 results, I was certainly enthused at the way the program continues to improve year after year, not only in terms of player numbers and player skills, but also in the important fan and community support that is present at each game.

Again, congrats to our Dawgs and staff on a nice year.

Roundball is coming – Meet the Bulldogs around the corner

With the ending of the football season, and the start of basketball still a month or so away, this stretch of the year sometimes can feel a little like a lull period.

Looking ahead at the schedule that’s in store – it might be wise to consider the next three or four weeks more akin to the “calm before the storm.”

While fan activities are slim for awhile, rest assured the players and coaches are hard at work getting ready for this fast approaching 2016-17 season and at the same time, be equally assured that work at the Clinton County News is also heightened as we get prepared to cover the Dawgs and Lady Dawgs for the next four months or so.

Printing of the 2016-17 schedules should be completed this week and next week will be Big Blue Mania, set for Friday, November 11.

Wall of Fame inductees – a half-century apart

Of course in addition to introducing the players and staff for the season at the Big Blue Mania, the night will culminate with the induction of the latest members of the C.C.H.S. Basketball Wall of Fame.

More details on both will be published here as well as on next week’s Clinton County News front page, but I will mention that the two players who will be added to the Wall of Fame this year are both certainly deserving of the honor.

The Wall of Fame Committee went with a player from the 1950s for the Bulldog induction, naming Tony Sloan from the class of 1956, while a player from a more modern era, Jessica Cummings Conner, Class of 2006, will be honored as the Lady Bulldog joining the Wall of Fame.

Again, more on both new inductees next week, but congratulations to both are certainly in order for being named.

Roundball fans – mark your calendars for the November 11 Mania night, and get ready for a full slate this winter – roundball is almost here!
