Melton killed in single-vehicle accident

A one-vehicle accident Saturday morning, November 5 has claimed the life of a Clinton County woman, according to Kentucky State Police.

According to a report from the Kentucky State Police, Trooper David Long of Post 15 is investigating the collision that occurred Saturday at approximately 10:10 a.m. about seven miles north of Albany on U.S. 127.

The report said that Wilma Gaye Melton, 65, of Albany, was operating a northbound 2014 GM Acadia when it left the shoulder of the roadway, struck an embankment, and became airborne before striking a utility police.

Melton was transported to The Medical Center – Albany where she was pronounced dead by the Clinton County Coroner.

Melton was wearing a seatbelt and an autopsy was to be performed over the weekend, the report said.

Trooper Long was assisted at the scene by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Ambulance Service, and Albany Fire and Rescue.
